We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jennylina Duperon. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jennylina, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think many people secretly struggle with insecurity that’s often disguised as pride and confidence. It’s why we have such a sensitive culture that can’t take constructive coaching or feedback. Anything that is said can easily be taken as an attack which provokes defensiveness and the result, severed relationships and surface, counterfeit connections. Trauma that is undealt with will always resurface and manifest itself through behaviors that are more often than not, projected onto those closest to you. Rarely will anyone say that it’s an insecurity, but if one is easily triggered or takes correction as a personal attack, that’s usually a pretty big red flag.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jennylina Duperon. I am the owner of Graceful Glow Makeup LLC. I specialize in Bridal Makeup and provide on-location services for clients throughout the Tampa Bay area and surrounding cities. My experience began when I was in modeling and provided makeup for the models and really enjoyed the artistry of makeup. I then pursued a unique interest in providing the services “on site” which placed me in the bridal niche. There was really a need for makeup artists and hairstylists who were willing to travel to the location where the bridal party was getting ready, to help avoid additional stressors, like scheduling appointments and unnecessary travel, that could come with weddings. I took a Bridal Airbrush course with a reputable company in the Tampa Bay area and worked with the owner’s team for a year before branching off to begin my own company. The owner became a mentor and really helped me in the beginning phases of my business and for that, I am forever grateful. Graceful Glow Makeup was born with the intention to provide bridal and other special occasion makeup services, for women who wanted to enhance their natural beauty, with a graceful glow.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust. When trust is compromised, the connection fades. Trust is the most important thing in a relationship, and a bond cannot exist without it. When you can believe in people and they in you, you feel like you can overcome anything. Real and authentic bonds require trust in order to be honest with each other with hard topics, to be vulnerable, to feel secure and to assume the best. Lack of trust will always make the relationship fragile and delicate and who wants that in a tough world? The way to restore bonds is to acknowledge when one is wrong, be accountable and accept responsibility rather than blame shifting and work to regain trust. It is possible.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Relationships have been the most joy and life-giving part of my life but also what has caused the most pain. Grieving the loss of friendships is a hurt like no other for a person like me, who wants to hold on to anything and everything that once took part in my life. I misunderstood that what was intended to be for a season, I tried to make for a lifetime. I refused to accept the harsh reality that came with the word “temporary” because I desperately longed for stability and deeply rooted connections, so much that I continued watering dead plants, hoping that they would live again.
I am still working on healing this part of my life. I have created healthy boundaries and now can value real relationships and nurture those that God has placed in my life in this season, while fully accepting that I don’t have to hold onto them with a death grip because if and when their time passes, another will come and the timing is always perfect.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I am who I am in all places. I don’t believe in living a double life. Integrity is so important to me and I believe people let you know who they are, especially if they are willing to change depending on their environment. I refuse to compromise my character out of people pleasing. Have I failed at this, for sure! But I quickly learned that it’s better to stand alone with dignity and respect than follow a crowd heading in the wrong direction. Those who truly know me, know I am myself in public, online, in church, at a restaurant, with friends, while working etc. Sometimes, to a fault!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying so much. When it comes to health and wellness, I would not take myself so seriously. I would let go of my silly fears (like flying) and just enjoy living and laughing. Making memories is so important to me especially with my family and I would be intentional to do even more of that. Including the impromptu moments. I would also let go of my desires of being understood and accept that it’s ok to be misunderstood. As long as I keep checking my heart and my intentions, I don’t need to worry about how something is perceived.
