Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with $inful Bluu

We recently had the chance to connect with $inful Bluu and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning $inful , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
My selectiveness. My selective process for how I run my business and many aspects of my artistry can be misconstrued in a negative light but people just don’t understand that my selectiveness is what will ensure that I achieve the long-term goals and plans that I’ve laid out for myself and my business. People tend to reject what they can’t comprehend and that’s okay as I have no interest in revealing my bluuprints anyway. Only the final outcomes.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by the stage name $inful Bluu. I am an independent music artist and I also established/run a media platform for independent artists and entrepreneurs called “$et The Bar”. My musical style can be most described as a “wild card” as I dip into all genres so you don’t know what you’ll get, but I primarily focus on R&B and Rap. I am currently planning to release my 3rd EP on Halloween as an honor to my late mother. This project was heavily inspired by one of my favorite anime series, Naruto, and a character called “Pain” as the songs on it cultivate a painful but beautiful journey: love, hate, rage, grief, sadness, and acceptance are the pillars of this project. I believe this EP will be the most vulnerable and transparent to date as it brings the experiences I’ve endured in the past 2-3 years to life musically.
As far as $et The Bar, the platform has continued to provide a safe space for independent artists/entrepreneurs locally and outbound. I plan on furthering my connections and spreading out in the new year as I can never ignore the continuous support the movement has received from the independent creative community.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I taught myself how to play piano by ear. When I was in middle school, I asked my mother for a piano keyboard for Christmas. I didn’t (and still don’t) know how to read music notes but I was eager and determined to learn how to play the piano. As asked for, I got a keyboard for Christmas and immediately created a list of all my favorite songs so I can learn to play them on the keyboard. Reading music notes is extremely difficult for me so I knew I needed to use a method that would work. I started watching YouTube tutorials of all these songs, but not for the notes, but so I can memorize hand placements as well as the sounds of each key. Through this process I was able to effectively learn how to play piano by ear and memorization. So even if I haven’t seen the hand placements for a specific song, I can figure out the right keys as long as I know how a song goes and the hand placement will get remembered as I go. Mastering this method made me feel powerful when I learned my first song in full.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. I’ve been thinking about it more often since my mother’s passing. But her passing is also what keeps me pushing through everything. Sometimes I also feel like I have too much on my plate to balance everything but I’ve come to realize that it’s not just about balance, but timing as well.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That “success” lies in numbers, materialistic things, false connections/bonds, and many others meaningless things that push the narrative. Success is what one makes it to be.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would continue to build what I’m building now. My legacy.
