Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dana Brandt

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dana Brandt. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Dana, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
Oh my gosh, great question! I am totally wandering! I have no idea where I’m going or what this career will bring. For me personally, I set a lot of goals but they’re broad. When I follow my instincts and trust myself, I always see the plan unfold the way it should. Even if it doesn’t feel that way at the time. It always works out for the best. There’s a lyric from a Tom Petty song that says, “Runnin’ down a dream, that never would come to me. Workin’ on a mystery. Goin’ wherever it leads.” That’s my mantra.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Tampa Wedding Network is built on nearly two decades of industry experience, starting in 2009 working weddings throughout the Chicagoland and Milwaukee markets. Those early years gave me a front‑row view of how vendor relationships, communication, and professionalism directly shape the client experience. When I relocated to Tampa Bay, that background naturally evolved into venue development, and since 2017 I’ve been helping local venues strengthen their brands, systems, and vendor partnerships.
That venue‑side perspective is what shaped the Tampa Wedding Network into what it is today: a curated, credibility‑driven community of photographers, planners, florists, DJs, and creative partners who take their businesses seriously. We focus on real connection and real opportunity — networking events, styled shoots, and educational meetups that are actually useful. It’s a network for professionals who understand the power of referrals, trust, and the sentiment that “Teamwork Makes The Dreamwork”. As cliche as that sounds, it’s so true.
We also host successful wedding expos throughout the year, giving our members meaningful visibility and giving couples a streamlined way to meet reputable vendors. Tampa Wedding Network exists to raise the bar in the Tampa Bay wedding market by connecting professionals who want to grow, collaborate, and be part of something that genuinely moves the industry forward.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart — long before anyone told me what I was “supposed” to be. When I was seven, I was turning my parents’ old Halloween decorations into a haunted house in our garage, charging neighborhood kids fifty cents to walk through and splitting the profits with my best friends and the “actors.” I ran lemonade stands, held garage sales with my own toys, and even created a neighborhood newspaper so I could advertise my babysitting services. Looking back, I was constantly building little ventures without even realizing that’s what I was doing.
What really stuck with me wasn’t the selling — it was how much I loved creating things, organizing people, and turning ideas into something real. That instinct followed me into the wedding industry, into venue development, and eventually into building the Tampa Wedding Network. I’ve always been wired to build, connect, and make things happen, long before the world had any expectations of who I should be.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me clarity. Every time I’ve hit a low point — whether it was burnout, boredom, or one of those moments where I questioned everything — it forced me to pause and look at what actually matters. The hard seasons strip away the noise. They show you what’s worth rebuilding and what you’ve outgrown.
Success feels great, but it doesn’t teach you much. The tougher moments are where I’ve learned resilience, creativity, and how to recalibrate instead of quit. Nearly two decades in this industry have shown me that the dips aren’t the end — they’re usually the beginning of the next wave of growth. Suffering taught me to trust that cycle and move forward with more intention than before.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I rely heavily on the people in my network. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that no matter how right you think you are, a third‑party perspective will always reveal something you didn’t see. The vendors in my community bring ideas, angles, and experiences that make everything stronger. Collaboration isn’t just helpful — it’s essential. The best decisions I’ve made have come from combining my vision with the insight of people I trust.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I’m doing the “Happy Dance” all the time, absolutely. When everything’s flowing and the energy is high, ideas are bubbling- it does feel like tap‑dancing all the way in. Other days, I need to be a little more grounded, handling the boring stuff, admin, and parts of the job that require focus instead of fireworks. I drag my tap-dancing shoes to work on those days! That’s just the nature of this industry, though. As I said before, it comes in waves. I think myself and the Tampa Wedding Network members know to enjoy it when it’s easy, and stay centered when it’s not. During the exciting days, and the stressful ones, our team shows up with intention.
