Jessica Henson of Tampa on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Jessica Henson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jessica, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity stands out as the most important. It’s the foundation that supports every part of our business. At Adorn Murals™ excellence is our daily rhythm. Born of integrity, shaped by intention — it’s how we honor every wall, every story, and every client. When integrity leads the way, knowledge and energy naturally follow, driving us to create murals that truly resonate and endure.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, Tampa! Jessica Henson from Adorn Murals™ here! I’m thrilled to share our journey since last year’s Voyage spotlight.

Our growth has been remarkable, driven not by endless prospecting or door-to-door efforts (though we’ve stayed busy!), but by forging meaningful partnerships. The Rooted Muralist Community and its annual conference connected us with over 100 top mural artists nationwide, instantly expanding our reach. This vibrant network provides honest insights, shared expertise, and incredible support — a true turning point. Our partners at Zibra Paintbrushes deliver exceptional tools that ensure precision, while Florida Paints offers stunning, durable colors that withstand Florida’s sun and storms, backed by a dedicated team that makes collaboration effortless.

These alliances reshaped our approach to growth, moving us away from time-intensive canvassing that saps creativity. Instead, we’ve partnered with architectural firms, signage companies, design teams, and construction firms to secure larger commercial projects. And, yes! WE ARE LOOKING FOR MORE PARTNERS! This strategy strengthens our foundation while allowing us to stay deeply connected to the Tampa Bay community. Look out for our community murals, live-painting events, municipal murals, and projects from our new nonprofit, Adorn The Bay.

Adorn The Bay, our sponsor-driven nonprofit, is a heartfelt extension of Adorn Murals and boasts yet another amazing collaboration with founding partner, Marcos Resendez of the AMPD Project (based out of Texas). Adorn The Bay provides free, custom murals to hurricane-affected businesses, nonprofits, and municipal spaces, while also hiring displaced artists from nationwide areas also affected by natural disasters. Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds snap when integrity slips — like when someone dodges accountability or bends the truth just enough to skate by. The repair? Own it plainly: I failed you, and here’s my fix. Then DELIVER. Real restoration isn’t pretty words; it’s proving tomorrow won’t repeat yesterday.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie in our industry is that projectors or VR strip away our artistry. Nonsense! History proves otherwise. Michelangelo used pounced charcoal dust through pin-pricked outlines to map the Sistine Chapel’s epic proportions, freeing him to sculpt those chiseled figures. Leonardo da Vinci traced camera obscura projections — essentially ancient VR — to capture the Mona Lisa’s haunting gaze, transforming light into legacy. These masters wielded tools to amplify their genius, just as we muralists use quick outlines to conquer massive walls. Why should we be denied efficiency? Transfer is barely ten percent of the work. Tools don’t erase our craft; they elevate it.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I can absolutely try! That’s what integrity is all about!
