Inspiring Conversations with Yoisel Concepcion of Crearte Studio Tampa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoisel Concepcion.

Hi Yoisel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We’re Legna and Yoisel ― partners in life and art for more than 25 years. Although our formal training is in classical music (Legna is a classically trained singer and I hold a degree in classical guitar), today we pour our creativity into Crearte Studio Tampa, the photography business we founded after moving to Tampa in 2016.

Music has always been our first language. We write songs, perform together, and have organized cultural projects across Tampa that bring fellow artists onto our backyard stage whenever concert-hall rental costs proved out of reach. Our love of performing has taken us to venues throughout the city and even to festivals like Louisville’s WordFest, where we lived and worked for six years.

Our fascination with images began years ago with film cameras and darkroom chemistry. The moment I watched a photograph appear in the developer tray, I was hooked. Since then we’ve photographed everywhere we’ve lived, and if we’d discovered photography earlier, we might never have gone to music school!

Today we run our studio from home—a warm, inviting space lined with framed prints, quinceañera gowns, and maternity wardrobe pieces. We create timeless portraits of expectant mothers, families, children, weddings, and quinceañeras (sweet sixteens). Clients often tell us that opening their photo album or seeing a new wall portrait brings back the same joy they felt during their session—fueling our passion to keep creating.

Working from home suits us for now, but we’re open to moving into a commercial location as our client family grows. I’m also developing a personal photography project I hope to stage someday—ideally blending visuals with live music to unite our two artistic worlds.

Every day we sit at the computer, amazed by the growing archive of faces from our community—some familiar, some fleeting, all preserved forever through the magic of photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been an easy road. Being artists alone isn’t enough; we’ve had to learn marketing, finance, social media, and customer service. Each of those lessons comes with ongoing trial and error. And keeping our project alive while generating income through Crearte Studio demands discipline and dedication.

We’ve been impressed with Crearte Studio Tampa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Crearte Studio Tampa, we turn life’s milestones into wall-worthy art. We’re a boutique studio—run by two musicians at heart—specializing in maternity, family, children, wedding, and quinceañera portraits. Our trademark is a pampered, start-to-finish experience: curated wardrobes, relaxed posing guidance, and luxury prints. Bilingual (Spanish & English) and intentionally limited in bookings, we give each client our full attention. In short, it’s “art with heart” you’ll proudly display and treasure for years to come.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I enjoy reading in general, and lately I’ve been spending more time looking at photographs and paintings. I also watch photographers’ talks on YouTube and other content that inspires me. With so much information available, it’s getting harder to decide what to watch, so I prefer to choose just a few things and devote more time to reading.
