Inspiring Conversations with Eric And Kierstin Murphy of Flex & Flow Fitness LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric And Kierstin Murphy

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Eric Murphy, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 20 years of service, a personal trainer, and one the founders of Flex & Flow Fitness—a state-of-the-art gym and recovery center in Tampa, Florida. My journey into the fitness industry started long before I opened my own facility. During my time in the military, I saw firsthand the impact of fitness not just on physical health but on mental well-being, stress relief, and resilience. I also spent years working with supplement companies, competing as a sponsored athlete, and coaching individuals in body transformations, strength training, and nutrition.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges we faced was dealing with the SBA loan process, which took far longer than expected. While waiting for approval, we had no choice but to rely on credit cards and small loans to keep things moving. Once we finally secured a location, everything started moving fast—renovations, equipment installations, and getting the gym ready to open. But just when we thought we were in the clear, we got hit with two major hurricanes that caused severe flooding in the gym and left us without power for eight days. It was a huge setback, but we pushed through, rebuilt, and kept going. The journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has made us stronger and more determined to make Flex & Flow Fitness a success.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Flex & Flow Fitness LLC?
Flex & Flow Fitness is more than a gym—it’s a veteran-owned fitness and recovery complex designed to provide an elite training experience while prioritizing health, wellness, and community. My wife, Kierstin, and I are both veterans, and I’m a retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 20 years of service. A majority of our personal trainers are veterans, bringing the same level of discipline, dedication, and leadership from their military backgrounds into the fitness industry.
