Hi Darrick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was looking for something natural to replace over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicines to help with arthritis. I saw on the news one evening hemp had been descheduled from a schedule one drug, which meant CBD could be legal in the US. I had been reading and learning about CBD since the U.S. Congress approved pilot programs for CBD in a few states. Those farms growing hemp through these programs were making CBD oils and selling them in local markets in their states. But, this meant I could now purchase it as well. I did and had great response to the oils with pain and inflammation. From there, within a few months, I quit my job I had for over a decade and started my own business in a local mall. I reached out to those farms in the pilot programs to learn from them and to purchase their products. From there things have evolved into an independent store location and hundreds of amazing customers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. Banking has been difficult from the beginning. The banking industry has not recognized the deregulation of hemp and continues to lump us into an illegal drug status. To date, I have been locked out by four banks, two credit card merchants and multiple pay Apps. Also, the constant regulation changes through the state in relation to products and packaging. But to be truthful, it was all expected. This is a brand new industry and most all new industries go through growing pains.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently operate two business types in the cannabis industry. First, is the cannabis dispensary, Strain Theory. Strain Theory is a true cannabis dispensary, not a smoke shop or head shop. Once hemp was descheduled, it opened a whole new industry that allows licensed businesses to offer products made from many different cannabinoids including CBD and THC. We offer edibles, vapes, infused drinks and flower, with many options for each. Second is a wholesale line of cannabis edibles. Reef is the brand name and we currently offer four specific cannabinoid blends; Sativa, Hybrid, Indica and Sleep. Reef was created due to the newest regulations put into place by Florida’s Department of Agriculture in regards to packaging, ingredients, colors and testing. Once the changes went into effect it became difficult to find products to offer our retail customers that met all of Florida’s regulations. Many of the products offered in Florida retail stores are made and distributed out of state which means they may have different regulations placed upon them depending on that state’s regulatory committee. Reef gummies are made and distributed in Florida and we keep in close contact with the Department of Agriculture to help us maintain full compliance so retailers don’t have to worry if our products will be pulled from their shelves. Our gummies are all natural with amazing effects and flavors. Definitely something for everyone.

I am a true Floridian and have never lived in any other state.
