Inspiring Conversations with Colby Hollins of Frame & Form Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colby Hollins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

I’ve always had a passion for architecture and design. As a kid, I was constantly building with Legos, and my first real job was helping my uncle with construction projects. But for years, I wasn’t living in alignment with that passion. I was bartending in Hinsdale, IL, and while I’m generally a happy and optimistic person, I was feeling stuck—really just going through the motions.

When COVID forced everything to slow down, it gave me the clarity I needed. Something had to change. I explored different paths—CBD Hemp business, project management, wholesaling—and while none of them were “the thing,” each experience taught me something valuable.

Frame & Form Studio is something I’ve envisioned for a long time, and earlier this year I finally committed to it. Once I aligned my actions with my strengths—creativity, design, and real estate—things started moving quickly. I had a couple of key moments that confirmed I was on the right path, and the business has been growing month over month, including booking our first apartment complex.

This is Phase 1 of a bigger mission: to improve people’s quality of life through real estate. Long-term, I want to create sustainable smart homes and eventually self-sustaining communities. Letting go of fear and trusting the process has been a big part of the journey, but I finally feel aligned with the work I’m meant to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of the challenges were internal—fear of failure held me back more than anything, without me even realizing it. The more I tried to start businesses or side projects that weren’t aligned with what I’m truly great at, the more it felt like I was running uphill with weights strapped to my back.

There have also been practical challenges—figuring out how to start a business from scratch, balancing finances, staying patient while the vision unfolds. Letting go of old identities and trusting the process was one of the hardest parts. But each experience, even the ones that didn’t work out, taught me something and pushed me closer to where I’m supposed to be.

Finding out my father has multiple myeloma after I moved to Florida was definitely a wakeup call. He’s always been my greatest inspiration, so that put everything into perspective.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Frame & Form Studio?

Frame & Form Studio is a real estate media and design studio with a much bigger mission behind it. On the surface, we provide real estate photography, video, drone work, and design services—but what truly sets us apart is that we’re building toward something larger: improving people’s quality of life through the spaces they live in.

I’ve always believed that architecture and design impact how people feel day-to-day, and my goal is to bring that awareness into everything we do. We’re known for having an eye for design, being detail-oriented, and approaching each project with intention, not just efficiency. I want every client to feel like their property is being captured or designed with care—not rushed through.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the mission behind the business. Frame & Form Studio isn’t just about creating great visuals—it’s Phase 1 of a long-term plan to eventually build sustainable smart homes and, later on, self-sustaining communities that support healthier living. Every project, big or small, is a step toward that vision.

For now, our services include real estate media, design work, and creative support for realtors, homeowners, and developers. But what I want readers to know is this: we’re not just documenting spaces. We’re building a brand centered around quality, intention, and improving how people experience the places they spend most of their time in. This is just the beginning of a much bigger journey.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?

First and foremost, my wife Sarah Hollins, and my mother and father for their constant love and support through all the ups and downs on this entrepreneurial path. I have a huge family full of love and support as well.

Honestly, I’ve had so many mentors and people who’ve helped me along the way. Bjarke Ingels is one of my favorite modern architects—his passion to push the limits of what architecture is supposed to be has shown me that there are still people who believe in the sustainability mission and quality in design. Similarly, Frank Lloyd Wright, who was ahead of his time, is my all-time favorite architect.

Whether it was through my hemp business, being part of the USHBA (US Hemp Building Association), wholesaling, or project management—I wouldn’t be here without the combination of support, guidance, and belief from the people around me. Every single person who played a part, even in small ways, helped me get to this point.
