Inspiring Conversations with Brittany Borders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Borders.

Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. My Granny started buying me disposable cameras when I was about three. I grew up in an Army family, and we were always traveling to wherever my mom and dad were stationed. My Gran would mail the cameras to me, I would take the pictures, and the next time I saw her, we would develop the film and go over my pictures. She was also a photographer and taught photography as well, so she would show me where I cut someone’s feet off or how it was blurry, etc. We did this for most of my childhood. It wasn’t until I entered high school that my love of photography became the focus of what I wanted to do with my life. I got on the yearbook photography team and began taking photos. When the yearbook was finally published, I was hooked! I loved seeing my images in print.

I decided I wanted to get a degree in photography and learn history as well as new techniques and equipment, so I enrolled at Daytona State College. It was there that I earned my Associate’s Degree and knew I had to know more. After graduating, I enrolled at the University of Central Florida and earned my Bachelor’s Degree. I had my images hung in multiple museums and even purchased by an art collector in New York. I have worked extremely hard to get my own Photography business up and running, and I truly love what I do. I’ve been published nationally and internationally and have recently photographed images used in a local magazine. I love knowing that I can help people remember the most important moments of their lives. I always tell people who are getting married that long after the cake has been eaten, the family has returned to their corners of the world. People who you love are no longer with you. You’ll still have the images of your wedding day to remember those moments and people buy. Photographs capture that moment in time forever, allowing us to relive those feelings and emotions, which I think is incredible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely wouldn’t say it has been smooth sailing. I have been met with a number of challenges. I was in a crazy car accident two years ago and lost all of my equipment. I got banged up and had to start buying my equipment all over again. Then, right as I was beginning to recover, COVID halted my business completely. Luckily, I have since begun rebuilding my business again and I’m hoping it takes off this time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the sole owner and operator of my business. I specialize in Editorial, Wedding, and Lifestyle photography. I’m known for my unusual eye and the way I photograph weddings. I am also known for my interesting styled Editorial shoots. I like to really get involved and creative with my clients. We have a great time during our shoots – even though they can be extremely demanding. My clients and I enjoy our time and truly get to know each other. I don’t just show up, point a camera, and then leave. I get to know the people I work with and understand what is important to them, so I can be sure to capture that in their images. I also donate time to different local Veteran’s organizations. Both of my parents served in the Army, and I try to give back to our Veterans whenever possible – no matter what branch they served in. I love it! I believe everyone should be able to have high-quality images of life’s most precious moments, so I do everything within my power to work with people and help them make that a reality. My clients are wonderful, and I am extremely grateful for them.
