Today we’d like to introduce you to Sana Yusuf.
Hi Sana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the dental field at the age of 17 as a receptionist. I have worked almost every position (receptionist, insurance coordinator, and dental assistant) in a dental office and now I am the doctor! I graduated college at the age of 20 and commissioned into the US Army. After commissioning I went to dental school and after graduating dental school I served as an Active Duty Captain in the US Army. My role as a dentist in the Army greatly impacted how I practice as a dentist and the way I treatment plan for patients. I left the Army in 2020 right as Covid started. My family and I moved to Tampa and I worked as an associate dentist at an office. Working there after being in the Army made it difficult to provide the level of care I was accustomed to in the military. I was there for 2 years when I decided, if I wanted to do things a specific way I would have to open my own office and that is how the idea of Sana Dental Studio + Spa was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth – far from. But the road has not ended! One month after I signed the lease for my office I found out I was pregnant with my third baby. I am a planner and let me say, it was not part of the plan to open an office and also grow a human being…but I did it! That was just the first of many struggles. Business ownership is not for the light hearted and there is so much more that goes into running and opening a business then you’d think. Also, wearing all the hats at one time – CEO, dentist, HR, CFO, mom, wife, friend, etc – is very hard and trying to find time to do it all well is not easy. It’s all a part of growing – things aren’t smooth but they’re still going and that is what’s important!

Sana Dental Studio + Spa is Tampa Bay’s FIRST boutique dental office AND full service med spa combo. We are a boutique dental office and full service med spa, providing a unique, one of a kind experience. We have come to be known for bringing you the most relaxing dental experience you’ve ever had. Most of our patients end up leaving laughing and looking forward to their next appointment. Each patient encounter is really more like an encounter with a friend. We joke around, we talk about our kids, lives, ups and down, vacations, errands…all the things you’d talk about with a friend. Most of our patients say they feel like when they come to see us, it’s a trip to see their girlfriends. I mean, how many people can say that they have giggled and laughed WHILE getting their teeth drilled on? I would say the majority of my patients will experience that here.
The way brand is represented and seen is so important to me because it is literally an extension of me. My name is on the front door and I want to make sure that when people think of Sana, they think of quality and compassion. We do all aspects of dentistry from routine cleanings, exams, fillings, crowns to the big smile makeovers. We are just an average dental office, but pink, purple and glam 🙂
How do you think about happiness?
Wow! That’s a loaded question. I am so grateful to have come so far in my life, especially with the way things were for 8.5 years of my life. I never thought I’d be standing where I am today. What makes me happy is truly helping people and there are so many ways that I am able to do that. Whether it be with providing the highest level of dental care, making someone feel comfortable enough to come in to even get a cleaning, going to do mission trips to provide dental care to kids in third world countries, helping my kids accomplish something they’re trying to do, supporting my employees in reaching their goals…I love helping and it makes me happy.
