Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Grant.
Hi Pam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the mental health field began with an unexpected catalyst in my younger years. As a 10th-grade student, I was told by my guidance, counselor and parents that I was not college material—a statement that, while discouraging, ultimately fueled my determination to forge my path. After engaging various careers, I discovered my passion for counseling and, at the age of 45 decided to pursue my true calling.
I returned to school and obtained my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. Following graduation, I relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where I worked in the college counseling center at the College of Charleston. In this role, I developed a deep appreciation for the resilience and potential of young adults, particularly women.
My journey then took me to Sarasota, Florida, where I joined the New College of Florida’s counseling center. During my tenure, I encountered various challenges stemming from bureaucracy and a significant institutional transition. These experiences further solidified my commitment to fostering supportive environments for young women navigating life’s complexities.
In 2024, I took a leap of faith and opened my telehealth private practice, which has blossomed into a thriving endeavor. Today, I specialize in working with college-aged females and women up to the age of 50, guiding them on their paths toward a life worth living, out of the internal misery and into peace within..
Through perseverance and dedication, I have transformed an early setback into a rewarding career that allows me to positively impact the lives of countless individuals. My story serves as a testament to the importance of believing in oneself and pursuing one’s passions, regardless of the obstacles that may arise along the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my career in mental health, I have encountered various obstacles that have tested my resilience and adaptability. In my roles at the College of Charleston and the New College of Florida, I faced the challenges of working within complex institutional structures. These experiences taught me the importance of self-care, boundary-setting, and maintaining a strong support network to mitigate the risk of burnout.
Additionally, I learned valuable lessons in navigating change and uncertainty when New College underwent a significant transition. While this period was demanding, it ultimately deepened my commitment to fostering supportive environments for young women seeking guidance and empowerment.
Overcoming these challenges has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, shaping the empathetic and dedicated counselor I am today. My experiences have instilled in me a profound appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit and the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.

What were you like growing up?
During my time at the College of Charleston, I had the privilege of engaging in various enriching opportunities that broadened my professional horizons and deepened my commitment to fostering student growth.
One such opportunity was serving on the advisory committee to the President for three years. This role granted me a unique perspective on institutional decision-making and allowed me to contribute my expertise in mental health to shape policies and initiatives that better supported student success.
In addition, I volunteered for the Leadershape program, a transformative week-long experience designed to help students develop their leadership skills and personal vision. I also had the honor of participating in an Alternative Break trip, where I accompanied a group of young women from CofC to Miami for a week of sex trafficking training and exposure.
These experiences not only allowed me to contribute to the growth and development of countless students but also fueled my passion for empowering young women and promoting positive change in the world. I am grateful for the opportunities afforded to me during my time at the College of Charleston and the invaluable lessons they imparted.
