Today we’d like to introduce you to Ny’a Alicea.
Ny’a, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I was a little girl I wanted to become a Cardiovascular surgeon. I even went to Tampa Bay Tech and was accepted into the .medical program. When it was time for us to choose a specific path to be accepted in I was one of the few chosen to be in the LPN program. Unfortunately that program was canceled in my 1st year so they allowed us to choose another path or continue with the CNA program. I was one of the few to get accepted to the CNA program. Not everyone could join the program. I had the privilege to do clinicals in a hospital and nursing home.
During the summer time during high school I volunteered at my local hospital in the emergency room, pediatric, ICU, surgery, radiology, cafeteria and women’s care. I had a blast when things were hands on and not paperwork.
The summer after I graduated I got the opportunity to see 2 open heart surgeries. I actually passed out when the anesthesiologist was moving the needle under the person skin. They were then worried about even letting me see surgery HAHA. But when I went back to surgery I enjoyed it at first then I got bored and was falling asleep. I wanted to do hands on. But I appreciated the opportunity and will never forget it.
I was also fortunate to be accepted into the University of Central Florida Biomedical Science Program. I was able to get accepted into the STEM PROGRAM and LEAD scholars. In college I started learning there were different types of doctors including chiropractors and DOs.. i began to desire going down the DO path and joined a DO college group. I had the privilege to go to dinner with doctors and intern at a chiropractor office.
The more I learned about conventional medicine the more I realized this field was not for my. I did not want to put a bandaid on someone and they love with the condition forever and then they experience more problems with the medication and have to take more medications just to prevent the side effects of the previous medication. I decided to change ny major and focus more on missionary work. I changed my major to interdisciplinary studies with a focus on Physical science and Behavioral & Social Science with a minor in Business. I did not focus much on medicine after that.
In my senior year of college I got married and pregnant so my focus turned to my family. But I knew I did not want my children taking medications nor vaccines. I filed for vaccine exw.ptio for all my children from birth. When they are sick and if I can help them naturally I consider that before the doctor.
Overtime I learned natural remedies to help them. Here are a few remedies I love for them. To break a fever I put an onion under their feet and that breaks the fever over night. I have to make sure they are hydrated and put a cold cloth on their heads. I usually make a natural Gatorade now with lemon, water, salt, and honey. For a little baby you can do sugar or agave. If they do not want to drink I would use a syringe to give it to them. I also now make a cough syrup with honey and onion. I chop the onion and cover with honey and give a spoon full to them. For sore throats I love to make turmeric milk or golden milk. I warm almond or soy milk with turmeric, black pepper, and cinnamon. Sometimes I add ginger. These are some basic things I do when my children get sick in addition to my teas and extracts.
During the time of covid and after I began to feel worthless and have no purpose. I helped my husband build his dream trucking business and I was managing all of the paperwork and contracts while being a stay at home mom with all the children and I was pregnant. I was going through alot of stress, anxiety, loneliness, postpartum depression (I had my children back to back). I felt alone and without any help.
I began to cry out to God because I realized alot happened in just a few short years and all of my dreams and desires I was not working towards anything. After praying and crying out to him I felt the Lord nudge me back towards medicine. But I did not want to do conventional. I wanted to do natural. So I did research and found a school to get my Master’s degree in Herbal Medicine. My college is American College of Healthcare Science. It is an awesome school with very supportive faculty. I have learned so much knowledge and understanding of nature in my classes. Part of my classes I have to do labs, where I make different concoctions for different ailments an get feedback. This sparked my desire to start making products for people. I had friends that were willing to let me try the medicine out on them for free. When I saw the medicine actually worked I was so excited and motivated. I have one client, now a close friend who was having knee issues. She had surgery with a robot and the robot messed up. She ended up with an infection and no antibiotics worked. I asked her if she would give me a chance I would make it for her for free because she was suffering.
I made a salve and a tea to cleanse the infection. At that time I did not take into considerationthe disguating taste. It is now known as my Pain and healing salve. The main ingredient is Comfrey. Comfrey is known as the knit-bone herb because it heals from bone to skin and it will help a bone heal quickly. After her using it she had a major change in her knee. She had no pain for a period of time. She finally got relief. Then she drank the tea and after about 3 days I believe she went back to the doctor for them to check the infection and prescribe her more medication but they could no longer find any infection. It was truly a blessing. I was even shocked myself how powerful the herbs were and how well they helped the person heal.
This gave me the motivation to start my own business making products and offering them at a decent price. From then to now it has been a great journey. I have been blessed to meet so many people. I started selling at the Red Barn Farmers Market in Frostproof and I have been selling my products ever since. I have alot of regular customers and I love my new custgʻomers that come from all over North America. Frostproof gets alot of snow birds.
I am now in a phase of organization. I am taking one day at a time. I am truly grateful for everyone I have connected with and those who have supported my business. I am excited for the future and all that is to come in this business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall it has been a true blessing to serve the community and see people healed. I operate under the cottage food law, so I make sure I am careful with what I make and where I sell it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Heal The Soul LLC?
I make herbal medicine and products. J have tinctures, extracts, oils, calves, creams, and tea blends. I also offer consultations. I mix everything myself. I like to only sale thing ai make. Many people love my Pain and Healing Salve along with my Arthritis relief salve.
My Bladder control extract is very popular as well in the older generation. I have a new extract blend I made for someone for blood pressure that has been helping him alot. His other medication was causing so many problems but when he mixed taking my herbal extract with his medication he stopped having problems and now decided to slowly ween himself off of the conventional blood pressure medication to only use the natural extract I make for him.
I come from a background of low income so I price my products to be affordable for the average person.
I also do speaking engagements and trainings. I have done many for adults, but would love to teach the youth as well.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I would like to obtain my naturopathic practitioner certification and have a center like a doctor’s office. I would like to focus more on consultations and offering products specifically to my clients as a remedy. I am letting the Lord lead me in what to do.
I also would like to do more trainings and speaking engagements. I would like to teach people how to make their own medicine just in case of an emergency.
