Hidden Gems: Meet Mackenzie Mckee of bodybymac

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Mckee.

Hi Mackenzie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was Born and raised in a small friendly town In north east Oklahoma. Miami Oklahoma to be exact. I was never the type of kid to be in doors or not moving around. I loved being active. At the age 4, I remember always watching the olympics and wanting to be a tumbler. My mother told me if I could do a back handspring, she would put me in tumbling. I then self taught myself on her water bed. At the age 5, after hours and hours of mastering it on a bed and trampoline, i gained the courage to try it in our front yard. I JUST WENT! And although it wasn’t perfect, I DID IT! Since that day, i never stopped tumbling. I was in the gym almost daily, traveling the country doing ALL star cheer level 5. However, life took a small turn at the age 11 when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I have been tracking my food, and taking 5 insulin shots a day ever since. Combining diabetes with my love for fitness, i knew I was going to find a way to live out my dreams in the fitness world. After becoming a mom, and sharing my story on an mtv reality show, I knew there was a lot of moms out there who needed help finding their power and energy. We get so caught up in raising kids, we forget to put our mental health, physical health, and nutrition first to maintain it all. So being a mom of 3, struggling to pay my bills, i looked at the positive and ran with it. I had a love and passion, people who trusted me to help them, and a business mindset. I stopped worrying about what i didnt have and wrote down what i DID have. I had a laptop, a camera, and my sister had a small metal building in her back yard. I set up to film and starting creating at home workout programs. I worked 6 months and simply had faith in the end of my story. After all the blood sweat and tears. I launched my Online fitness business BODYBYMAC in May of 2017. It has been 6 years of many obstacles, but the business and helping others love themselves is TRULY where my heart is. I was not the only one in my family who loves fitness though, My mom and siblings are also into fitness so it was kind of a way we always all connected. On holidays, we would get together and have fitness competitions first. We picked a day a week to all get together to train. My mom was such a good example in our lives of what loving your body looks like. She didnt eat healthy and workout because she HATED her body. She did it because she LOVED her body. And watching that as a little girl always inspired me. She was a marathon runner, and enjoyed doing cross fit style workouts. In 2019 we lost her to cancer, but her legacy lives on. After I lost her, It was hard to gain my strength for bodybymac back, but i was determined to make her proud. As a single mom of 3 i made the decision to up and move from Oklahoma to south Florida. I came here to start fresh, grow my business, and reach for the stars. I love where i live and i feel like this is where my heart belongs. I am overwhelmed and blessed to see how far BodyByMac has come, and I am so excited to live out my dreams and continue to grow!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Business and Success is NEVER a smooth road. I had no clue when opening my own business, that i would lose my mom, and go through a divorce in the public eye. I also didn’t know we would hit a pandemic and go through inflation and a recession. Business is also hard because you have to keep up with what works on top of your already busy schedule. What worked last year, might not work this year. Sometimes you work hard for something that does not go as good as you planned, and sometimes what you thought wouldn’t work is the best thing your business could do. I have learned everything i learned in this business by FAILING first. Also, when you are in the business or entertainment world, the better you become, the harder people will try to cancel you. Its like they are waiting on the edge of their seats to see you fail and shout it to the roof tops. When I opened my business, I sold DVDs. Now, people don’t even use DVDs. I feel like something only works for so long. The world changes, and you always have to keep up with what is working. It’s been low months and high months. I have even had a low YEAR! One where I almost gave up. I pushed through and rebuilt this business so many times. But in the end, as long as you keep the faith, work hard, stay humble, and love what you do. You can and WILL make it through anything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
