Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Designing with Purpose: The Heart Behind Scarlett J Designs

Three years ago, I hit pause.

After more than two decades in the corporate world — leading client experience, creative strategy, and brand moments for major companies — I was completely burned out. The work was intense, the travel relentless, and I had very little left for myself, let alone my family.

I realized I had spent over 25 years helping brands show up in their best light — crafting moments, visuals, and experiences that made people feel something. What if I could take that same energy and intention… and bring it into people’s homes? Their celebrations? Their everyday lives?

That question changed everything.

I launched Scarlett J Designs not just to design beautiful spaces, but to create ease for busy professionals and families. My clients are high-performing professionals, parents, and business owners who don’t have time to stress over paint colors, furniture layouts, or holiday decorating. They want a space that feels effortless, elevated, and authentic — and they need someone they can trust to just handle it.

That’s where I come in.

With an MBA, interior design training from NYSID, and a long-standing background in client experience, I blend business acumen with creative strategy. I know how to listen, lead, and deliver. I work with discerning clients who expect excellence — and I thrive under that kind of pressure. My job is to make decisions easier, and to turn big visions into beautiful realities — whether it’s a living room refresh, a holiday decorating project, or a last-minute brand shoot that needs the right look.

Scarlett J Designs is more than a design studio. It’s my answer to burnout, yes — but more than that, it’s a service-first business built to make people feel at home in their own spaces. To give them a sense of calm, clarity, and confidence when they walk through the door. To make sure their home, business, or event reflects who they are — even when they’re too busy to figure that out themselves.

Now, I work more than ever — sometimes around the clock — but I love every minute of it. It doesn’t feel like work anymore. It feels like purpose.

This is what I love. This is what I was built for.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. And honestly, I don’t think any road worth walking ever is — especially when you’re building something from the ground up while trying to financially support your family. Walking away from a steady paycheck after decades in the corporate world was terrifying. One day you have benefits, bonuses, and direct deposits… and the next, it’s all on you. There were moments — especially in the beginning — where the money wasn’t coming in yet, and the fear of failing felt very real. But that pressure? It became my fuel. I didn’t have a fallback plan, and I didn’t want one. This business had to work — so I showed up like it already had.
Every late night, every client project, every moment of doubt has taught me something. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve had slow seasons, I’ve learned when to say no and when to double down. But through all of it, I’ve never questioned the decision to bet on myself.
This business wasn’t built on luck. It was built on grit, vision, and a whole lot of late nights. And I wouldn’t trade that journey for anything.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Scarlett J Designs, my work centers around three pillars: home, business, and events. I support my clients in the spaces that matter most — where they live, where they work, and where they gather to celebrate. What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve earned across all areas of their lives. My clients know they can depend on me — whether it’s designing their home, elevating their storefront or client space, or planning a milestone celebration. I’m not just a designer — I’m their trusted partner. The person they call when they want something to feel intentional, polished, and like them.
My services are designed for busy professionals and families who don’t have the time (or the desire) to stress over every detail. They want someone who gets their vision, understands the bigger picture, and just handles it. That’s what I do.

I offer:
Home Design & Styling – Full-service interiors, seasonal décor, and curated updates tailored to your lifestyle and aesthetic.
Business Design & Strategy – I work with service-based business owners to show them how thoughtful, brand-aligned design can transform both the space and the customer experience.
Event & Occasion Styling – From intimate birthday dinners to full holiday installations, I help you celebrate beautifully — without the overwhelm.

What sets me apart is my ability to merge design, strategy, and real-life functionality. I bring over 25 years of client experience to every project, which means I understand how to lead, communicate, and deliver — not just beautifully, but seamlessly.
I’m also fun — let’s just say that upfront. Scarlett J Designs isn’t stiff, overly polished, or trying to be something it’s not. This brand is me: personal, approachable, and full of heart. I bring warmth and wit to the process, and I believe great design should feel like a collaboration, not a performance.
I’m the kind of designer who will show up to your install with a tape measure in one hand and an iced coffee in the other — and probably make you laugh somewhere in between. I’m serious about the details, but never too serious about myself. I believe joy belongs in this process. That life should be celebrated — not just on holidays or big milestones, but in the everyday spaces where it unfolds.
I love what I do, I love who I serve, and I love the coastal community I get to do it in. And yes — I really love coffee and pizza. Like, non-negotiable, soul-level love.

At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to help people live and work beautifully — with less stress, more ease, and a whole lot of joy. Everyone deserves a trusted partner in their corner. I’m proud to be that for my clients.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Sarasota is the mix — the blend of people, backgrounds, and lifestyles that all come together in this beautiful coastal community. You’ve got full-time locals, seasonal residents, young families, retired creatives, and business owners all sharing the same sunshine. It gives the city so much character and makes every project and connection feel unique. And of course… the water. The sea breeze, the salt air, the way a walk on the beach can reset your entire mindset. It’s a constant reminder of why I chose to build something here — a business and a life that feels purposeful and grounded, not just busy and overbooked.
As for what I like least? If I had to name one thing… let’s just say the traffic in season definitely keeps me practicing patience.
