Hidden Gems: Meet Jimmy Estrada of JELA Payments

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Estrada.

Jimmy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up the son of a single teenage mom, and from the start, I learned resilience and the value of integrity. After high school, I chased my dream of becoming a songwriter and producer in Los Angeles, even building a small record label. But when my wife was seven months pregnant, I chose to walk away and put family and faith first. That pivot led me into healthcare, where I managed operations and saw firsthand how confusing and predatory payment systems impacted both providers and patients. That experience opened my eyes and eventually became the bridge to JELA Payments. What started as a side hustle grew into a mission: to bring transparency, fairness, and education into an industry clouded by hidden fees and fine print.

Today, as co-founder of JELA Payments, I help small businesses, especially in overlooked sectors like healthcare, automotive, and retail, make smarter financial decisions that save them thousands and give them peace of mind.
My story has been one of reinvention, combining music, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, but the common thread has always been faith, family, and service. Whether I’m consulting with a CEO, mentoring youth, or speaking from the stage, my purpose is simple: educate first, sell second, and prove that doing business with values isn’t just possible, it’s powerful.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not even close. But honestly, that’s what makes it worthwhile. You can never grow while you’re comfortable, whether that’s in health, business, or relationships. Challenges aren’t a bad thing; they’re the pressure that shapes you. I’ve had plenty of seasons where it felt easier to just play it safe and be “happy” in the moment, but even those tough times had their own kind of beauty because they forced me to stretch.

From a personal perspective, there were moments I didn’t know what to hold onto. I put a lot on hold, especially financially, because when you’re building something, sacrifices feel constant. There are nights when you’re staring at the ceiling, wondering how to keep everything moving forward, and mornings when you walk into a client meeting with a smile anyway. That’s the reality of running a program or project: you carry the burden when things go wrong, but you also get to share in the glory when it all comes together.

The funny thing is, from the outside looking in, people only see the highlight reel. They see the awards, the speaking gigs, the nice LinkedIn posts, and think it must be a perfect world. What they don’t see are the failed pitches, the doors closed in your face, the risks that didn’t pay off. But that’s where the story really is. The setbacks, the pivots, the little wins that nobody claps for are the things that build resilience. And truthfully, those behind-the-scenes battles make the moments of recognition that much sweeter.

We’ve been impressed with JELA Payments , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At JELA Payments, we help small and mid-sized businesses simplify the way they process payments. In an industry often clouded by hidden fees and fine print, our promise is simple: educate first, sell second. We walk business owners through the process so they can save money, stay compliant, and actually understand how their systems work.
What sets us apart is integrity and trust. Too many business owners have been burned by long-term contracts and empty promises, so we built JELA on the opposite foundation with no gimmicks, no pressure, just transparency. Our clients stick with us because they know we’ll do what’s right for them, even if it means walking away from a deal.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that this isn’t just a business but is a family legacy. My daughter is preparing for college, but she also has the opportunity to work within the family business, to be supported while still pursuing her own dreams. That’s what success looks like to me: building something that empowers clients and creates opportunities for the next generation.
At the end of the day, JELA isn’t just about payments. It’s about proving that business can be honest, human, and deeply impactful when it’s rooted in integrity and trust.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is building a life rooted in faith, family, and integrity. My journey has taken me from music studios in Los Angeles to healthcare operations and now into payments, but the constant has been the people I do it for and the way I choose to show up

Family matters because it’s where everything starts. I want my daughter to know she has the freedom to chase her dreams, whether that’s in college, in the family business, or somewhere entirely her own while always feeling supported.
Integrity matters because, in business, trust is currency. Too many owners have been burned by hidden fees and long-term contracts. I’m proud that JELA was built on the opposite: transparency, education, and the belief that doing right by people will always be the best growth strategy. At the end of the day, success isn’t just the revenue we generate: it’s the trust we leave behind and the opportunities we create for the next generation.
