Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Kuczer.
Hi Heather, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We opened in downtown Safety Harbor in 1995. We were in a small location directly on Main Street and I was the only therapist. In 2018 we moved to a new, larger location and added skincare to our services. Within the last six years we have expanded twice after our original move, so we now occupy 3 suites in our building. We are currently waiting for our building permit to start our construction to do this current expansion. We currently have over 20 very experienced licensed massage therapists and clinical aestheticians. With our current expansion we are looking to add complimentary services that we are excited to announce to our clients in the coming months. We are very proud of out 5 star Google Rating with well over 800 Google Reviews.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When we first opened I was engaged to my now husband of 28 years. So along the way we got married in 1996 and had 3 beautiful children. I wanted to be there as much as I possibly could when they were young, so the business was more of a part time thing for me. So there are struggles that go a long with all of that. Any working mother can attest to that. Feeling like you aren’t doing anything well is a REAL feeling when you are trying to balance everything. In the middle of all of the this my husband was diagnosed with a very rare type of skin cancer on his temple which ended up traveling through a nerve behind his eye. We traveled up to Boston, MA for 3 weeks for a very difficult surgery and returned to Tampa for chemo and radiation. Luckily all went well following all of this, which we are very thankful for. When my youngest went to middle school, I decided to really throw myself into growing my business and eventually stopping doing massage therapy personally. I worked hard at figuring out what marketing worked and what did not. Trial and error definitely costs money and there were some learning experiences for sure. I concentrated on bringing on highly trained and very experienced therapists. I made customer service a priority and made sure that if clients were not happy for any reason, that we would line them up with the most fitting therapist at no cost. We learned to screen clients over the phone and line them up with the most fitting therapist. We wouldn’t and still do not book people just to get them in quickly. Every day is a learning experience and some days are better than others, but we continue to work hard at make our clients experiences with us a positive and wonderful.

We work hard to listen to feedback and improve our business. It is a priority to us, so we listen to feedback and use it constructively and always have.
We always strive to be the best at what we do. We don’t want to be mediocre. We want the client’s experience to be wonderful from their first phone call with us, to walking through the door smelling beautiful aromatherapy scents and being offered citrus water, coffee, tea and snacks while waiting for their therapist or aesthetician. The treatment they receive is of most importance but everything else they encounter is part of their overall experience with us and we want all of it to be warm, welcoming and wonderful.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
This is something I feel I am lacking in. Networking has never been a strong point for me. I never loved going to networking groups. I seem to make connections with people one on one and have been lucky enough to know some very educated, successful people who have been great resources to me as my business grew.
