Hidden Gems: Meet Aviva Hood of Aviva Fit Flip

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aviva Hood

Aviva, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my personal training career in the late 1990s after working as a lifeguard at a local health club. I got my degree in exercise science in 2000 and worked briefly in corporate fitness. In 2006, I took my 1st pole dancing class and was immediately hooked on dancing around a pole to stay fit. It didn’t take very long to watch videos of more experienced polers on YouTube to start learning more advanced holds and poses. There is a lot that must be done off the pole to have beautiful poses on the pole.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have had to rehab many injuries that set back my training and made me have to take a step back from group classes even though I can still train people one one one.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in training people who want to learn things that challenge them. I am known for accomplishing advanced pole holds and tricks and being able to teach them to people who are ready to learn them. If you are not ready to learn what you want, I can help you build the foundation to get you ready. I am most proud of the ability to safely train anyone in my home or their own personal space. I can come to you, or if you wish to come to me, I can maintain 6 feet distance or wear a mask to get right up in your face to spot you if you feel more comfortable. I also have a very thick mat if you wish to use that option. I have learned a lot from my own injuries and rehabilitation of them and can help clients avoid many common injuries. My brand is named [Aviva] Fit Flip because of the flip in your mind when you realize exercise can be fun, and you might even look forward to working out one day. Though I specialize in pole dance, you do not have to have any interest in pole dancing to train with me. I train people in general fitness and people who overall want to feel better about their health and wellness. With over 20 years of experience in fitness, I can help most people reach their goals.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
To find a mentor, look to someone who has accomplished what you wish to and try to speak with as many of those people as possible. Social media can be a good place to start, but hopefully, you also have friends and acquaintances that know what you do and will tell other people they know about you.
