Today we’d like to introduce you to Arina Doroshenko.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was in college working in a molecular biology lab, I realized I really wanted to work with people. I felt very isolated, and wanted to have human interaction and make daily positive impact in people’s lives. That’s when I shifted gears and decided to pursue pre dental/pre medical track.
I went to dental school and as part of my training rotated through oral surgery department. After that there was no stopping me, I knew I found what I was meant to do. The training was long, but extremely interesting: not only did I go to medical school, but I also did a year of general surgery rotating through ENT, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, anesthesia etc.
After my training I worked in corporate dentistry and in private practice settings, and all was well, but I felt that something was missing. I decided to open my own practice! What a fascinating process: exhausting, stressful, elating, fulfilling.
I wanted to create a place that would feel like home, where my assistants would look forward to coming to work, where patients’ fears would be allayed, and where I would thrive doing what I loved. It’s been over three years and I believe that my vision stayed true and I succeeded in bringing my dream to life. We are growing and expanding, and I want to make sure as we grow we keep to our core values: loving our patients, being kind, and supporting each other.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Business is problem solving, so I think to look at road bumps and “problems” as an exception is the wrong way to do it. It’s part of the process. Of course something unexpected is going to happen, of course it’s going to alter your day to day, that’s just life. For us, there were hurricanes that shut the business down for 2 weeks, there were dips in patient flow because of elections, there’s essential staff members that move and need to be replaced. And that’s the essence of business. The thing to do is to keep calm and carry on. Learn from missteps, and attempt to predict, so you can prepare. Hurricane season has it’s own protocol in our practice.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Orange Blossom Oral Surgery?
Orange Blossom Oral Surgery
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was born in Russia, and since I was little I’ve been dreaming about coming to a place like Florida. I don’t like the cold, and the first time I saw the ocean, I knew I had to live close by. I love the Tampa Bay area: the bright blue sky even in the winter, the gorgeous beaches, the restaurants, the art, the orange groves, the manatees. I wanted to pay homage to Florida, so I named my practice Orange Blossom Oral Surgery.
