Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon & Keira Geary.
Hi Devon & Keira, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We founded Geary Media Group as two sisters who are passionate about helping local small businesses and artists thrive through creative and effective marketing strategies that highlight unique stories, utilize affordable resources, and engage with the community.
Our passion for marketing began with our involvement in promoting our family’s vacation rental in Sarasota. Alongside advertising on traditional rental services, we designed an engaging website with direct booking and ran the social media pages on Facebook and Instagram, highlighting new renovations, local businesses, and events. Over seven years, we had a consistent 5-star rating and numerous returning guests, which added to our growing interest in marketing.
We both recently graduated with our bachelors from the University of South Florida, focusing on psychology, communications, and digital marketing. Additionally, we each participated in marketing internships with the New College of Florida and Daktronics, developing our skills in content creation, social media, copywriting, and product and event promotion.
In our senior year of college, we decided to start our business, Geary Media Group. What originally began as a passion project to help family members market their small businesses, has developed into a full-time opportunity to expand our marketing services to our community. We take pride in providing affordable, personalized, and effective digital marketing strategies to business owners, in order to help them prioritize running their business.
Some of our recent clients include SRQ Diet Center, a holistic nutritionist in Sarasota, and Color Your Couture, a color analyst who does personal appointments and events. We’ve also expanded into portfolio websites and artists’ projects, working with Sarasota-based filmmaker, Connor Farrell.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Since we started our business during our last semester of college, we did face some challenges in building the foundation of the business itself. In between our classes, we met with Marla Oppenheim, a local SCORE mentor, to assist us in developing our business plan, client proposal packages, and in establishing our LLC. This was a very new experience for us, but with each milestone, we felt more confident in accomplishing our goals.
Additionally, starting out we looked for opportunities to begin networking with local business owners. We attended local events, such as the SRQ Women’s Expo, to introduce ourselves to the Sarasota-Bradenton community and offer our marketing services with other vendors.
Overall, we have enjoyed this learning process and look forward to the continued growth of both our entrepreneurial skills and our marketing consulting services.
