Today we’d like to introduce you to David.
Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came as a political exile from Cuba in 1961. I graduated from the U. of Alabama with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1965 and from Auburn in 1966 with a degree in Chem. Eng. I worked for a few years and went back to school and got a M.S. in Chem. Eng. from the University of Mo. at Rolla in 1970. I got married to Patricia in 1965.
I work for the 3M Co. for 30 years building and upgrading manufacturing facilities through the USA. I retired from 3M in 2002 and started a new career as a Soft Tissue/Nerve Pain Therapist. I continued to take courses at the Upledger Institute so I could be more effective in treating people in pain.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I came to the US I did not have any money, I did not speak any English and I did not know anybody. Park College in Parkville, Mo. offered me an opportunity to work and go to school and also being a tennis player helped me. Then I got enough credits to be able to transfer to the U. of Alabama and then to Auburn University.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Villassage Soft Tissue Therapy?
I started the Soft Tissue Pain Therapy in 2002, work for a while for the YMCA, then for the South Side Gym for a few years and when they closed down I opened an office at 200 Capri Isles Blvd.- Unit 1F, Venice, Fl. 34292 on 2012.
I treat people with Soft Tissue/Nerve pain, such as sciatica, tennis/golf elbow pain, plantar fasciitis, nerve pain, migraines, TMJ dysfunction, low back pain and many other soft tissue or nerve pain. Initially I do a complete evaluation and let the client know what we need to do to completely eliminate the pain. Also I give them a set of exercises and stretches to prevent the issues to come back..
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
At the present time the work I do is not very common because is a combination of several Techniques, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Active Isolated Stretches, Nerve manipulation, Soft Tissue Release, Manual Articular Approach, Cranial Therapy, Spinal Manipulation and other combinations.
I can see in the next few years clinics opening offering the work I do which at the present time are not offered in the US,. In Europe these clinics exist in France, Germany, Spain and other countries, they were founded by Pierre Barral a French Osteopath Who is my main instructor. and Head of the Osteopathic Dept. in France.
