Exploring Life & Business with Cindy Solomon of Solomon Adventures Travel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Solomon.

Hi Cindy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2022, I turned my lifelong passion for travel (especially cruising) into a business. After 31 wonderful years in education, I traded lesson plans for travel plans. I retired in 2024 to dedicate myself full-time to helping others experience the joy of travel.
I grew up in SWFL, after moving away for college, found my way back home in 1998. My husband Tom and I have raised four children and are now blessed with five amazing grandchildren. One of our greatest joys is sharing the love of travel with them. In fact, our 6-year-old grandson, who has autism, finds incredible happiness and comfort on cruise ships, which makes those journeys even more meaningful.
As an Accredited Cruise Counselor with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), I specialize in cruises but my love for travel extends to all-inclusive resorts, theme park resorts, international destinations and concert and sporting event tickets as well. Whether you’re dreaming of setting sail on the open seas, relaxing at a luxury beach resort, or exploring the world’s most fascinating destinations, I’m here to make it seamless.
Best of all, my services come at no extra cost to you. I don’t charge any fees. I’m paid by the suppliers, so you can focus on enjoying your trip while I handle the details.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Becoming a travel agent involves learning a lot of new information, everything from understanding different travel suppliers and booking systems to mastering destinations, cruises, resorts, and customer service skills. At first, it can feel overwhelming to take in so much. Airlines, commissions, itineraries, and travel insurance all have their own details to learn. But by taking it step by step and having a ton of support along the way, the process becomes not only manageable but exciting. With guidance from mentors, helpful training resources, and a community of experienced agents, each concept starts to click, and before long, you realize how much knowledge and confidence you’ve gained. The key is progress, not perfection. With the right support system, you can truly enjoy learning the ins and outs of the travel industry while building a career you love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Solomon Adventures Travel?
I’m proud to work under a highly respected host agency that has been in business for over 70 years. This partnership provides me with access to their established credentials, trusted supplier relationships, and unlimited training opportunities, all while allowing me to operate under my own agency name. It’s the perfect balance of independence and support: I’m in business for myself, but never by myself. Besides the incredible perks, one of the best parts of this journey has been the incredible community of agents I have worked with over the past three years. My teammates have truly become like family. I now have the privilege of mentoring new agents on my team and hosting a weekly cruise training on Zoom for our team. Sharing my passion and knowledge has been so rewarding, especially as I continue learning and growing alongside others. My love of cruising also drives me to attend Cruise360 each year to stay up to date on the latest trends in the industry; an experience that helped me earn my Accredited Cruise Counselor (ACC) certification through CLIA. I’m always looking for motivated individuals who are interested in becoming travel agents and joining this exciting, supportive community!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I developed a deep love for travel. My father was a poultry equipment salesperson who often delivered across the country, and even internationally, so from a young age, I was lucky enough to tag along on his journeys. Whether riding in his semi-truck or flying to the Caribbean, I learned early on to appreciate new places and experiences. My dad had been traveling the world since he was 18, and his passion for exploration inspired me to see the world, too. I took my first cruise in high school and another in college, though it would be several years before I set sail again. In the meantime, I continued exploring by car and plane, visiting different parts of the country whenever I could. Fortunately, my husband shares my love of travel, which made becoming a travel agent a natural fit for us. As an introvert, stepping into entrepreneurship pushed me outside my comfort zone, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. It’s not always easy, but I truly love what I do.
