Exploring Life & Business with Kristi Capone of Avocado.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Capone.

Hi Kristi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been fascinated with food – not just the consumption of it, but its provenance, the creation and source of certain dishes, the impact it has on a culture. When I went vegetarian in 2008, doing so opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. I began to experiment with foods I’d never before tried and new ways of preparing them. It became a fun challenge to see where I could take my culinary skills. In the years since I’ve become so excited with all of the amazing plant-based creations that I’ve discovered, and I wanted to share that with other folks. Avocado. is the result of many years of studying and experimentation with vegetarian cuisines.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Avocado. has come along quite nicely. I’m cooking and shopping for people who haven’t the time, the energy, or the resources to do it themselves. The local vegetarian/vegan movement has grown by leaps and bounds, and I’m smack in the middle of it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Avocado. offers private chef, kitchen concierge and menu planning as well as meal preparation. I specialize in preparing vegan/vegetarian/raw vegan meals, either for one person or a whole family. If someone is having a romantic dinner for two or a wedding reception and they want all plant-based offerings, that’s where Avocado. can assist. I also offer personal kitchen organization, which is something that a lot of people find daunting to do on their own.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
From the ground floor up, I’ve had friends and clients who supported me by giving Avocado. an opportunity to create meals for them. And their word of mouth – their verbal support – has also been amazing. I was very honored to be a finalist in the LocalShops1 “Top Local Chef” competition in 2018 – it was fantastic to meet and compete with some of the incredible other chefs in the Tampa Bay Area, and some of us have become friends.

My very talented husband created the business logo and makes the menu graphics for our holiday meal specials. He’s excellent with that technical stuff, and it leaves me room to play with the food! He is by far my biggest supporter for sure.
