We recently had the chance to connect with DJ Franco and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning DJ, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about being a DJ, especially in the wedding and corporate event world, is that we just show up, press play, and party. But the truth is, DJing at this level is about so much more than music. It’s about curating energy, understanding crowd psychology, and being able to seamlessly blend cultures, genres, and emotions in real time.
What people often don’t see is the behind-the-scenes work. I coordinate directly with brides and grooms, marketing teams, and event planners to design an atmosphere that fits their vision. Whether it’s a timeless wedding vibe or a high-energy brand activation, I take the time to understand the audience and the goals, then custom curate not only the music but the entire vibe through seamless transitions and personalized light shows.
As DJ Franco, I’m not just spinning tracks. I’m engineering experiences. Every playlist, every drop, every lighting cue is intentional. Whether it’s an intimate rooftop wedding or a packed corporate event, my goal is always the same: to create a moment they’ll talk about long after the music stops.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is DJ Franco, and I specialize in creating unforgettable musical experiences at luxury weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations across Florida and beyond. I started my journey as a college and club DJ at the University of Florida, spinning at campus parties and Gainesville nightlife spots. Over time, that hustle, consistency, and passion for music helped me grow into a brand that now serves high-end clients and large-scale events.
I’ve had the honor of being the official DJ for the Florida Gators basketball team for three years and continue to DJ private recruiting events for their football program. I’m known for my open-format style that seamlessly fuses hip hop, pop, Afrobeats, dancehall, and Caribbean music into custom-curated sets that reflect both my clients and my culture.
My brand is more than just entertainment, it’s about crafting a vibe. From working closely with couples to design the perfect wedding soundtrack, to collaborating with event planners to elevate brand activations, I focus on delivering high-impact experiences through music and lighting that match the moment. Right now, I’m expanding into more corporate and destination events while continuing to develop signature experiences that are polished, professional, and unforgettable.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that truly shaped how I see the world was going on a mission trip to Haiti. As someone with Haitian roots, it was more than just volunteering. It was a chance to reconnect with where I come from on a much deeper level. Being on the ground, working directly with communities, I saw people doing incredible things with little to no formal education, things that people with advanced degrees would struggle to do or couldn’t even imagine. That level of resourcefulness, intelligence, and heart changed how I define value and talent.
It made me realize that brilliance doesn’t always wear a suit or come with a title. That trip grounded me and shifted my mindset from chasing surface-level success to focusing on real impact. It reminded me how powerful culture, connection, and creativity are. That experience still fuels how I approach my work today, especially through music. Whether I’m DJing for a luxury wedding or a corporate brand, I carry that deeper purpose with me to uplift, connect, and inspire through every set.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to focus on your own growth and stop comparing yourself to others. The time you spend looking sideways at someone else’s path is time you’re stealing from your own progress. You’ll stunt your growth by constantly measuring it against someone else’s timeline or success story, instead of watering your own seeds.
Everyone’s journey is different. You don’t need to be ahead you just need to be consistent. Trust that what’s meant for you will come if you keep showing up, stay grounded, and put the work in. The moment you stop competing with others and start competing with the version of you from yesterday, everything changes.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what matters most to me is growth. Personal, spiritual, creative, and emotional. I’m always looking for ways to evolve, not just as a DJ but as a man. They know I value progress over perfection and that I’m constantly checking myself to make sure I’m moving with intention and not ego.
They’d also say I care deeply about energy and connection. Whether I’m behind the booth or in a conversation, I want people to feel seen, heard, and elevated. That’s why I take the time to curate not just music but moments, because for me it’s never just about the beat, it’s about how the experience makes people feel.
Lastly, I think they’d say I protect my peace. I don’t chase noise or trends. I move with purpose, stay grounded in my values, and surround myself with people who pour into each other. That kind of alignment matters to me more than anything.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I made them feel something real. That I brought people together, elevated the energy in every room I walked into, and used music to create moments that actually mattered. I want the story to be that I did not just play music. I listened, I connected, and I cared.
That I showed up with intention. That I represented my culture proudly. That I poured into people whether I was behind the booth or just in a conversation. That I created space for joy, for movement, and for memories. That I treated people with respect, even when no one was watching.
I hope people say I did not just chase success. I chased purpose. And that I left behind more than mixes or playlists. I left behind a feeling that stuck with people long after the music stopped.
