Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Barfield Rhett Matthew.
Hi Taylor Barfield, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all began on a scenic drive back from Tennessee. Rhett and Taylor, fueled by their shared love for travel, food, history, and media production, found themselves dreaming up a project that would combine all their passions. Seven months later, in January 2025, that dream took shape as Video Americana.
Rhett’s media journey kicked off at Howard W. Blake High School in Tampa, Florida, where he majored in journalism for 4 years. He later honed his skills at CSB Media Arts Center, diving deep into the world of broadcast media. For the last 8 years he’s worked as a production manager in the Tampa media market.
Taylor, on the other hand, discovered her passion for media in elementary school. After graduating from Armwood High School in Seffner, Florida, she sharpened her photography and videography talents by shadowing a media team and working in various photography studios.
Since launching Video Americana, we’ve been on a mission to uncover and share the hidden gems that define America’s rich culture. From producing mini-documentaries to covering events like the Wacken Metal Battle at the Brass Mug in Tampa, every project brings new stories and experiences.
Of course, every journey has its challenges. Finding locations and subjects willing to be featured can be tricky, but we’re always eager to explore and learn more about the places we hold dear.
At its heart, Video Americana is about celebrating the stories that make America unique. We aim to spotlight places that have stood the test of time—beloved by locals and steeped in history. And above all, we’re committed to creating content that we’re truly passionate about.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Video Americana has been an exciting adventure, but like any new endeavor, it hasn’t been without its bumps. One of our main challenges has been finding locations and individuals willing to be featured. While many are enthusiastic about sharing their stories, there are times when we face hesitation or logistical hurdles. Despite these occasional setbacks, we remain committed to exploring and highlighting the hidden gems that define America’s rich culture.
Another aspect we’ve navigated is balancing our creative aspirations with the realities of production logistics. Coordinating schedules, managing equipment, and ensuring high-quality output require meticulous planning and adaptability. Each project teaches us something new, and we’re continually refining our processes to better tell the stories we’re passionate about.
Through it all, our dedication to Video Americana keeps us motivated. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow, and we’re excited about the journey ahead as we continue to uncover and share the unique narratives that make up the American experience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Taylor:
Every Easter, my family’s gatherings were the heartbeat of my childhood. The day before, I’d huddle with my cousins around our kitchen table, dyeing eggs in bursts of red, blue, and yellow. I’d laugh as I smudged green dye on my fingers, the air thick with the smell of Mom and Mawmaw’s southern cooking—fried chicken, collards, and cornbread that warmed the soul. Those moments felt like home.
Easter Sunday, I’d show up in my stiff Sunday best, itching to run. I’d hide eggs in sneaky spots—tucked behind car tires or perched in the highest corners of the front porch—then race my cousins to find them, our shouts echoing. Inside, country music blasted from the living room TV—think Garth Brooks or Dolly—while we joked and swapped stories, just happy to be us.
Rhett:
One of my favorite childhood memories is my first season as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers season ticket holder in 2010 with my uncle RJ. That year, the Bucs went 10-6 and kickstarted my diehard fandom. I had always been a Bucs fan, but that season pulled me in like never before.
