Hi Ruby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Ruby Crews, the owner of The Beauty Spot of Tampa. I grew up in Seminole Heights and knew from a young age that I wanted to work in the beauty industry — I was that kid playing “salon” and organizing imaginary appointments. Years later, I earned my Full Specialist license from the Aveda Institute and launched The Beauty Spot in 2021 right from my home.
What started small has grown into a private beauty suite where I specialize in eyebrows and results-driven skincare, including services like ombre/powder brows, brow lamination, waxing/threading and corrective facials. My focus has always been creating a welcoming, personalized experience where clients feel cared for, heard, and confident. I’m constantly continuing my education so I can provide the safest, most up-to-date techniques. The Beauty Spot is truly a reflection of who I am — a Tampa native, a mom, and someone who loves helping people feel at home in their own skin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. In the beginning, the biggest challenge was financial — starting a business from scratch while trying to keep overhead low. I was grateful to be able to work part-time elsewhere to keep things steady while The Beauty Spot grew, and I didn’t go full-time in my business until 2023.
I’ve also changed suites a few times as I found the right fit, which can be both exciting and exhausting. And in the middle of all of that, I got pregnant — a beautiful blessing, but it naturally slowed things down and required me to juggle growth with taking care of myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At The Beauty Spot, I specialize in eyebrows — especially ombré powder brows, brow lamination, tinting, and precision waxing — along with lash lifts and results-driven facials. I’m known for creating natural, soft, customized brows and for giving clients a relaxing, educational, and truly personalized experience.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come. Through continuous education and being extremely intentional with every service I offer, I’ve been able to create work that genuinely makes people feel amazing about themselves. There’s nothing better than seeing someone look in the mirror and feel more confident, more themselves.
What sets me apart is the way I approach my work: with comfort, communication, and results that enhance — not overpower — someone’s natural features. I take the time to understand each person’s goals, lifestyle, and concerns so their brows or skincare truly fit them. My space is clean, calm, and welcoming, and I want every client to feel seen, safe, and cared for from the moment they walk in.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that most people don’t know about me is that before I ever stepped into the beauty industry, I spent years working in operations and marketing for an HVAC company. I built their marketing department from the ground up, and handled everything from customer service to implementing new systems. It was a completely different world, but it taught me so much about organization, communication, and creating a great client experience — skills I use every single day in my business.
Most people see the beauty side of what I do now, but there’s a whole business-minded, strategic side that helped The Beauty Spot grow into what it is today.
