Daily Inspiration: Meet Ricky Singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Singh

Hi Ricky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in India and moved to New Jersey to raise my family. During Covid my workplace closed down and I began watching resin artwork on YouTube. My interests sparked a hobby of resin creations that started in my garage. When quarantine ended, I decided to turn my hobby into a full-time business via street fairs and my Esty shop. Since childhood I’ve always liked to work with my hands. I grew up admiring the artwork of my father who used to paint during his younger years and wanted to follow in his footsteps.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a long learning process for me & many mistakes were made on the way. But I never gave up due to my family’s support.
They have stood behind me in all my artistic endeavors, especially my older brother, who shares our mutual appreciation for art and has been my biggest supporter thus far. Thanks to his support and that of my entire family, I have been able to pursue a path based on my passions.
My motto is “create, create, create!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create artwork in various mediums, but I primarily work with epoxy resin. Resin offers me the flexibility to craft pieces in both static and dynamic forms, from traditional canvas art to intricate 3D sculptures. I love making vibrant, eye-catching art that draws people in and invites them to look closer. Much of my inspiration comes from the lively and playful nature of pop art. Additionally, I enjoy creating functional art pieces, such as coasters, clocks, and cutting boards, all made from resin as well. The piece I am most proud of is “The Maharaja,” a photograph of a 20th-century king from Punjab. I covered the piece in a layer of resin and adorned it with artificial gemstones, creating an ornate display of color and jewels. Each gem was meticulously placed by hand, embellishing the king in a dazzling array of bling. This piece holds the most significance for me because it connects to my heritage and portrays a man who resembles me, at least in appearance.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
After 20 years of living in New Jersey, I left my life and community there to take a chance on living alone in St. Petersburg, FL. I didn’t know what to expect coming here, especially because I arrived essentially alone, not knowing if I would find success. However, the people I have met here have been incredibly welcoming. Thanks to the ArtsXchange (Warehouse Arts District), I have been able to make my artistic visions a reality because of the amazing studio I have and the supportive art community here in St. Pete.
