Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Silvestri.
Hi Lisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been blessed throughout my life by being able to travel. Growing up in Southern California,
I moved to Hawaii in the early 1960’s….I experienced my first ocean voyage sailing back to California
4 years later! That was it, I fell even more in love with the sea! Then in 1966, I saw a post card in the
library for a Semester at Sea! I applied the next year, even before graduating from my Junior year in
High School and was accepted.
After sailing around the world in 1969 at the age of 17, I was forever linked in my spirit with travel
exploring the world!
In 1999, while deciding what type of business my husband and I wanted to transition into….we decided
up travel. So, in 2000, Silvestri Travel began! Our intention, from the beginning was to be a boutique,
home based travel agency.
NOW we are beginning our 26th year in this amazing, and wonderful experience…bring travel and worldwide
memories to our clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Where can I begin?
9/11, shoe bomber, worldwide terrorism, natural disasters, economic turn downs,
political unrest, and more.
On a less worldwide perspective, building a thriving, home-based enterprise with a continual stream
of clientele can be a challenge. However, with proper marketing and the abililty to pivot
as needs change is a key factor to success. The internet is not to be looked at as competition
but another tool to build more knowledge to be passed along to clients, or, vice versa!
In spite of it all, travel and exploration is in all of our dna. We yearn for experiences
with our fellow humans, new vistas, memories and discoveries.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Looking back, I started my first business when I was 10! I wanted more allowance and saw an
advertisement to sell Chrismas and holiday cards. With the help of my Mom, a little red wagon and
plaid briefcase….I had a sales route that ran for three streets (both sides of the block) where I went
door to door selling cards! After two years I was selling cards and more year round to my neighbors!
I have worn many professional hats throughout my life….the root of most of my jobs has always been
around sales and public relations.
I thrive however, with my own companies; doing whatever it takes to make them successful. In partnership
with my spouse, we have had three successful businesses! I am continuously take classes to increase my business
accumen, specialty travel product classes, country specialties and industry certifications and more.
What sets me apart is my passion, drive and service to my clientele!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I have always held the belief that everything happens for a reason…whether we
know what that is right away or sometime in the future. We can always choose
to carry on in a happy and positive way.
I don’t believe that there is any failure in life or business. EVERYTHING is a step
to the next day in our life and brings with it the opportunity to continue moving
forward with a more complete base in our lives whether personal or professional.
Bumps along the way are learning tools…of what to continue or what to drop off
from our day to day.
Most of my life’s experiences have all had more than a little serendipity attached
to them. Whether they were potential negatives or absolute open doors I have
always accepted it all.

- More than three itinerary changes for each trip will prompt a $200 per hour consulting fee
