Daily Inspiration: Meet Juliana Dias Dos Santos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Dias Dos Santos.

Hi Juliana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Juliana Dias, I am 31 years old and I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. I am graduated in Business and I worked in the Human Resources field for around 6 years until 2013 when I decided to quit my job and go after a dream of owning my own small salon. I purchased a salon that had a really bad reputation and I decided to go to a hair school (L’Oréal Professional) to learn more about the business, in order to run my salon.

I felt in love with hair and the capacity that it has to empower women!

In 2016 the economy of my country was really bad and even that the salon wasn’t in debt I received the opportunity to move to Orlando, FL and something inside of me made me feel that was the right move to take.

I had no idea of how would be my life over here (ah, I didn’t speak any English) but there is one thing about me that I truly love, I am not afraid of taking risks and I know that I if I truly believe and put effort on it, I would be able to grow.

In 2017 I met my husband Charlie and since the beginning he gave me all the emotional support and always believed on my TALENT AND PASSION. He helped me to build a small Salon on our apartment and I quit working on other places and dedicated exclusively to hair. I knew that If I worked hard, I would be able to make it.

I never had extra money to invest on expensive classes but there is so many videos on YouTube that helped me to develop my skills and open my mind.

In 2018 we decided to move to a new city without knowing anybody and we had no idea if we would have job, but we had a hope and each other support.

Again, we put a small salon on our living room and I started to advertise my work online.

Faster than I thought I was booked and growing my name inside of the Brazilian community.

In 2020 I saw an opportunity to start to work in a high-end salon in Downtown Sarasota as a stylist assistant.

It was the first time that I was going to work as an assistant but I was truly happy for the chance of learning not only about hair but also to improve my English and Spanish and my customer service for a total different kind of clientele.

I always understood that my growth is linked to the size of my effort and work. So, I started to have my clients on my day off at the Salon and work 5 more days as an assistant.

The salon saw my numbers, my desire to grow, and my potential and in 4 months I got promoted to a LVL 1 Stylist.

I kept investing in education and self-development and in one year I got promoted to one of the highest LVLs at the salon and now I am able to teach my assistants not only about hair skills but also about business mind.

I believe that each person is different so I always take my time to really know my client’s needs and help them to ENHANCE THEIR OWN BEAUTY and that is what I believe to be my differential. I don’t give the same hair to everyone; I customize hair to each one of my girls.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Well, if it’s smooth, we don’t appreciate it, right?

Throughout my journey, I heard much more discouragement than people supporting me, even in my neighborhood I never had support from my friends in my salon. I heard people asking how I was going to invest in a salon if I wasn’t a hairstylist.

I heard a lot of people asking me how I would work in an American salon if I didn’t speak English so well. And even when I got promotions at the salon, I heard gossip that I didn’t deserve it, that my job wasn’t that good.

I heard sometimes that I wasn’t talented, that I work too many hours, I never receive many clients coming from the place where I work, I understood since the beginning that I had to do an amazing work on social media in order to have people on my chair.

I never wanted to prove anything to anyone, I just needed to prove to myself that I was capable.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hair artist because I do much more than only add highlights on people hair. I customized each service to fit their lifestyle and also to enhance their own beauty,

I am specialized in hair transformation and extensions.

I truly give 100% of me to each client that is on my chair, and the smile on their faces is my biggest reward.

I believe that my differential is that I truly CARE. I don’t think about how much money they will give to me; I am focused in give the best hair that I can.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is related to inner happiness and self-knowledge. Once I started to look inside of me and truly understand who I am, what do I want for my life, what is my purpose, I was able to set up personal goals, and accomplishing it gives me the sense of fulfillment and success.

No, success isn’t related to become famous our rich. at least not for me.
