Daily Inspiration: Meet Jamie Saeltzer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Saeltzer

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

“With 18 years of experience as a hair color specialist, my passion for the craft has only grown stronger. I’ve dedicated my career to not only mastering the technical side of color but also to helping clients look and feel their absolute best. Early in my journey, I became a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon owner in Ohio, where I honed my business acumen and leadership skills. This led to an incredible opportunity as a national color educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems, where I traveled to schools and salons, sharing my expertise and helping stylists grow in their own careers.

Later, I took on a new challenge by moving to Charleston, South Carolina, where I joined one of the most prestigious salons on King Street, immersing myself in an elevated, fast-paced environment that pushed my creativity and refined my skills. After relocating to Florida and welcoming a baby, I rediscovered my love for working behind the chair. This time, I had a new perspective and a clear mission — to create a salon that aligned with my personal values of health, wellness, and sustainability.

That vision became Citrine Salon & Well-being, a space where clients experience a holistic approach to hair care. I immersed myself in learning about low-toxin, organic color systems and clean beauty products. I didn’t want to just do hair — I wanted to make a difference. I also expanded my services to include skincare, ensuring that Citrine fully embodies the ‘well-being’ aspect of its name.

What drives me every day is the chance to combine artistry, wellness, and education. I’m constantly inspired by fashion trends and am committed to making every client who sits in my chair feel beautiful, confident, and cared for.“

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey to where I am today has been anything but smooth, but each challenge has shaped me into the professional I am now. I began by owning a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon in Ohio, a role that required immense hard work and dedication. As a national color educator, I honed my craft and taught others, but relocating to Charleston, South Carolina, meant closing my business and leaving Paul Mitchell.

In Charleston, I joined a L’Oréal Professional salon where I had to adapt to a completely new environment, learning multiple color lines and integrating into a team of over 40 stylists. I embraced the challenge, building relationships and earning trust as both a collaborator and a color specialist.

Relocating to Florida brought new opportunities. I started fresh at a smaller salon, which felt less intimidating but still required me to prove my value. With my advanced skills, I often commanded higher ticket prices, which sometimes created a dynamic with colleagues that I had to navigate thoughtfully.

Eventually, I stepped out of my comfort zone again to follow my dream of opening Citrine Salon and Well-being, aligning my clean lifestyle with an organic, low-toxin product line. I carefully researched and selected the perfect color line and designed a cozy, welcoming space that reflects my holistic approach. The journey to create this salon was not easy, but every step reaffirmed my passion for my craft and my dedication to providing clients with a unique, health-conscious experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My specialty behind the chair is enhancing one’s natural beauty in a way that feels effortless yet transformative! Whether I’m hand-painting soft, face-framing highlights, adding dimension to break up a solid color, or creating subtle pops of brightness for a fresh, youthful look, my goal is always to craft a style that feels modern, low-maintenance, and uniquely tailored to each client.

What sets me apart is not only the simplicity and precision of my work but also the experience I create for my clients. From the calming atmosphere I’ve cultivated to the way my touch and techniques leave them feeling relaxed and confident, it’s about more than just hair—it’s about the way they feel when they leave my chair. Helping someone look and feel amazing is the magic I’m most proud to share.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’ve recently been diving into some impactful books, including Worthy by Jamie Kern, Be Useful by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk. Each offers unique insights that challenge and inspire me in different ways. I’m also listening to an educational podcast focused on personal growth and relationships—keeping it PG!

One of my all-time favorite reads is Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. It taught me the value of cherishing life’s simple moments and not wasting time on things that don’t serve me.

Music is another essential part of my daily life—it truly feeds my soul. I enjoy a wide range of genres, but when I need to focus or relax, jazz or acoustic tunes are my go-to for grounding and inspiration.

I make meditation a daily practice, often twice a day, incorporating various types of breathwork to tune into my body’s needs. I listen closely to what my body is asking for, allowing me to adjust accordingly. Yoga and Pilates are also staples in my routine, each bringing balance, strength, and clarity that positively impact every aspect of my life.
