Hi Cheyenne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with responsibility at a young age. When my mom was diagnosed with MS, I stepped into a caregiver role for my younger brothers. After losing her to suicide in 2016, my path shifted toward advocacy and purpose. In 2019, I attended my first Out of the Darkness Walk, which led me to join the committee, then the board, and eventually serve as Board Chair for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. That experience taught me the power of turning pain into purpose.
Alongside my advocacy work, I built Shiney Day Specialized Pet Care from the ground up, a business inspired by compassion, community, and a love for animals, which went on to earn a Best of SRQ Award. In 2024, I was honored to receive the Women Who Roar Award, recognizing my leadership and dedication to both people and pets. Today, I continue to pour that same passion into my work, serving on the fundraising committee for Satchel’s Last Resort and as Assistant Media Manager for GUARD Against Trafficking. My journey has been about finding light through loss, service through struggle, and purpose through compassion.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey has been shaped by challenges that tested and ultimately strengthened me. Growing up, I became a caregiver early on when my mom was diagnosed with MS, helping to raise my younger brothers while still balancing school and responsibility far beyond my years. I attended two different colleges while in high school, determined to build a better future even in the middle of chaos at home. I also became a young parent before losing my mom to suicide in 2016, a loss that forever changed my perspective and fueled my passion for advocacy and mental health awareness.
Starting and growing my business while raising my daughters and staying active in community leadership hasn’t been easy. There have been long nights, moments of doubt, and hard lessons learned. But through every challenge, I’ve discovered resilience, faith, and purpose. Those struggles became the foundation for everything I do today, both as a business owner and as someone dedicated to helping others find light in their own dark moments.

Absolutely! No success story is ever a solo effort. My husband, Cullen, has been my biggest supporter from day one. He’s believed in my vision even when I doubted myself, and his steady encouragement has been the backbone of Shiney Day Specialized Pet Care. From helping behind the scenes to being a sounding board for ideas, he’s been a constant source of strength and perspective.
I’ve also been fortunate to have incredible clients who feel more like family. Their trust and loyalty have allowed Shiney Day to grow into the compassionate, community-focused business it is today. Beyond that, my team of dedicated pet care professionals, fellow small business owners, and friends within the nonprofit world have all helped shape my journey, cheering me on, collaborating, and reminding me why I do what I do.
