Daily Inspiration: Meet Casson Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casson Evans.

Hi Casson, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Yea of course! I Always knew I wanted to be an entertainer. From a young age I was always singing, dancing, making people laugh and I felt good doing it. My love for movies and film came later on in life. My grandma had these VHS tapes of movies like “The Green Mile,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and “A Christmas Story.” I watched “Paranormal Activity” for the first time at the age of 5 (the first horror movie I ever watched) and immediately fell in love with the horror genre. My love for music was just engrained in who I am. My parents always played it while cleaning, cooking, chilling, etc. When I got my first phone the first thing I did was download like… 8 songs. But all these things, believe it or not, are calming to me. I love the expression, the creativity, the ingenuity and messages behind all these things. I felt like sharing that with the world through content… so I am.

I had countless YouTube channels in middle school where I’d post clip compilations of me playing NBA2k and Fortnite. While I didn’t have a lot of subscribers or viewers, I was making people laugh, making people smile. I felt good knowing that. Back when I was like 12 or 13 I actually ran 4 or 5 different gaming teams (my friends and I would all post clips to one channel under one name) at different times which gave me some of key digital marketing skills that I carried over into HS where I started doing short form content.

I started taking content seriously August of 2021 and I’ve been loving it ever since. I feel like where my content stands out is in my ability to merge all the different facets of who I am and what I love into a video. It doesn’t happen ALL the time but MOST of the time, I’m able to find a way to incorporate movies, music and horror all in one like a little checklist. This is key to story because, when I first started making content my biggest fear was that I was going to lose myself in all these different niches and the categorization of my page would be next to impossible. But after almost 4 years of doing movie, music and horror content I can confidently say that there is an audience for EVERYBODY. No matter what kind of crazy conglomeration of content you make, somebody will watch.

Never in a million years did I think I’d be in the position I am in today. I’ve met some really dope people, gone to some dope places and have worked with people I never thought I’d get the chance to work with. And this is only the beginning. As a kid, I used to sit on my phone or my computer and watch people like me and dream about one day being in position and now that I’m here I have zero regrets.

I plan on moving into long form content at some point but for now, I’m steadily building an authentic community of movie, music and horror lovers that will hopefully stick with me for the long run.

If I can leave off with one thing— never quit. Never give up.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d say the most challenging aspect of making content is not quitting. Where a lot of people fall short in content creation is thinking that it will happen over night and — while it sounds cliche — it’s the truth. The fairness of content creation is another thing that I had to come to terms with really early on. The truth about fairness is there isn’t any. At least not when it comes to content creation in my opinion. The reason I say that is because if you do the work, the rewards will follow. Virality doesn’t happen overnight and it isn’t consistent so you have to be okay with some videos doing better than others and (as much as I hate to say it but it’s true) WORSE ones doing better. It’s all a matter of luck. The only thing I could do while trying to understand all of this was POST and stay true to myself in doing so.

The numbers don’t matter if you aren’t you. Being authentic will bring authentic people to your page. Inauthenticity may make you viral FASTER but it’s not real. Which is why I approach my content in terms of interest and not what could get me the most views. Thankfully, with my niche being a very popular one, it doesn’t make it hard to be authentic but it doesn’t make it hard to stand out which leads me to another challenge and one I would recommend new creators to look into which is: standing out in your niche.

This is where most of the creativity and challenge of being a content creator comes in. You have to figure out a way to conjure up something new and interesting either from scratch or by using content that’s already out there. For me it was my ability to combine my interest and niches seamlessly while also offering comedy on top. It took time and practice before I developed my own style but now I feel like it’s one that relatively recognizable among other movie creators.

Overall, my journey as a content creator has been a hard but fun one. I love doing this and am grateful for the challenges that come with it because that means I’m doing something right!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So in addition to content creation I’m also a filmmaker. I’ve made several short films and actually won “Best North American Horror Short” at the Avalonia Film Festival here in St. Pete! It was for a short I wrote and directed called “Dark Duplicate” centered around a girl who encounters her doppelgänger in her home. I do a little bit of everything when it comes to filmmaking — editing, cinematography, lighting — but my passion is in writing. I love storytelling and I love narrative in all forms. One of my favorite authors is Stephen King and Ive been studying his writing ever since I was 10. In terms of screenplays, I write everyday trying to hone my skills. I read countless scripts- studying the greats. I’m actually developing two of my own feature films that I can hopefully produce in the future!
