Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Roy.
Hi Alex, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as DJ Alex Roy started 16 years ago with a simple love for music and a desire to create memorable experiences for people. What started as something I enjoyed quickly grew into a passion and eventually a serious career.
I’m a Florida native, and much of my early career was built in Tampa and throughout Florida. I started by taking opportunities wherever they came—clubs, parties, school events, private events, and eventually weddings and corporate events. Along the way, I learned that being a great DJ is about more than playing music. It’s about reading the room, understanding your audience, and creating an experience people remember.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to DJ more than 150 weddings, work major events, perform alongside nationally recognized artists, and serve as an official DJ for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their Super Bowl run. Each experience has helped me grow and continue developing my brand.
I recently made the decision to leave my corporate career and focus more heavily on DJing and growing in the entertainment industry. I currently partner with several entertainment companies in both Charlotte and Tampa, allowing me to continue expanding my network, opportunities, and experience while continually growing as a DJ.
I’m currently based in Charlotte, North Carolina, while continuing to serve the Tampa region. I’m also looking to expand into Georgia, South Carolina, and eventually the DMV area. The long-term goal is to build a nationally recognized brand while continuing to create great experiences and evolve as a DJ.
For me, DJing is about bringing people together, creating moments, and giving people something they’ll remember long after the music stops.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest struggles I’ve encountered has been learning how to balance DJing with the rest of my life. For a long time, I was balancing a corporate career, DJing, relationships, family, friendships, and trying to make time for my own personal goals. There were definitely periods where I was stretched too thin and had to make sacrifices because there simply weren’t enough hours in the day.
Another challenge has been learning that growth doesn’t always happen on the timeline you want. There have been opportunities that didn’t work out, times when I questioned whether I was making the right decisions, and moments where I felt like I was putting in a lot of work without seeing the results immediately.
I’ve also had to learn how to navigate relationships while building a career that requires a lot of my time, especially with late nights, weekends, travel, and being constantly on the go. Sometimes being focused on building something for yourself can unintentionally take time away from the people and things that matter to you.
Leaving my corporate career was another major step. It came with uncertainty, but I ultimately realized that I needed to prioritize myself and give more attention to something I’ve spent years building. Since making that decision, I’ve felt more focused, happier, and more aligned with where I want my life and career to go.
Those challenges have taught me that success isn’t just about being busy or saying yes to every opportunity. It’s about knowing what matters to you, protecting your time, and having the courage to make changes when something is no longer working.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
DJ Alex Roy is an experienced open-format DJ specializing in all things events, from weddings and corporate functions to nightlife, sporting events, and private celebrations. While he enjoys every type of event, weddings are a particular favorite because of the opportunity to be part of such an important moment and help create an unforgettable experience for the couple and their guests.
With a strong background in event production and entertainment, Alex brings professionalism, energy, and versatility to every event while continuing to evolve his sound and brand.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my ability to engage with a crowd, remix and transition on the fly, and adapt to virtually any genre or audience. I don’t believe every event should sound the same. I read the room, adjust to the energy, and make decisions in real time to keep people engaged.
Whether it’s a packed dance floor, an intimate wedding, or a corporate event, my goal is to create the right experience for the audience in front of me. I’m constantly learning, experimenting, and finding new ways to make each event feel unique.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice to anyone just starting out is to take your time, be patient, and trust the process. Don’t feel like you have to have everything figured out right away. Study, learn, practice, and master your craft. The more you put into developing your skills, the more confident you’ll become.
Be open to ideas and different ways of doing things. One thing I wish I had early on was more mentors and people to learn from, so I always encourage new DJs to network, build relationships, and surround themselves with people who can help them grow.
Most importantly, stay open-minded. Everyone’s path is different, and there’s something you can learn from almost every person and experience. Keep showing up, keep learning, and let your work speak for itself.
