Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Kevlin.
Hi Robert, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well I have been working as a Speech-Language Pathologist since receiving my Masters in Science in 2010. Having worked with children in schools and then mainly with adults in various settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation, long-term care, assisted living, home care, and even in private practice, I decided to open my own business in 2020, “NeuroRehab & Speech Healers”, so that I could help more individuals, having all of the necessary tools to do so since I was now in charge and could tailor my treatment plan to each individual as needed. Most recently, in 2025, my wife, Yana and I became the Area Owners of Senior Care Authority in Sarasota, Florida, where our company is now providing assisted living placement (free of charge to the families) and consulting services, such as driving, and peace of mind (e.g., entertainment) to seniors to improve their quality of life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth at the beginning, but I think that this is natural. The key is to know whether you have the potential to be successful and whether you have the desire to take the steps along the way to get there. From a clinical standpoint, we treat most diagnoses, so becoming experts at each one required us to research the optimal solutions, however at this point, we feel that our methodology of systematic, organized, and compassionate care, is one of the best out there, and we have either healed or made significant gains with a high percentage our patients with communication and swallowing challenges. From an administrative standpoint, dealing with reimbursement from certain third party payers has been challenging at times, however we want out services to be affordable, and so we make an effort to work with insurance companies to make this happen.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I essentially own 3 businesses at this point in time. With “NeuroRehab & Speech Healers”, we specialize in working with adults with communication challenges with everything ranging from language challenges after a stroke, cognitive challenges after a traumatic brain injury, dementia, swallowing challenges, voice issues, and speech issues, including stuttering, and articulation for individuals that are having difficulties producing certain sounds. We evaluate each individual, usually with a standardized assessment, we write a report, and then we provide therapy services to target each individual patient’s specific goals until they are ready for discharge. We are known for being patient driven, compassionate, and systematic. We prepare for each session and provide materials for home practice. I am most proud of seeing such impressive results, such as a patient that I recently treated for a year- he went from having moderate aphasia after a stroke to having language abilities which were in the normal range after treatment. What also sets us apart is that we provide free phone consultations, we offer in person and tele-health visits, participate with most insurances, and we offer morning, afternoon, and evening sessions, and even are open on Saturdays.
We also have recently opened a top senior care placement and consulting franchise in the area called “Senior Care Authority”. Essentially, we are agents who provide free options for Assisted Living communities in the area which match the senior’s preferences and goals. We accompany them on tours, review state surveys, and have personally visited every community/home which we have recommended. We also offer evaluations of driving such as the “Beyond Driving with Dignity” program, and we can provide consulting services such as the “Peace of Mind” program where we visit the senior in their home and spent time with them or we can accompany them on medical appointments and then provide the pertinent information to their adult child, for example.
Finally, I am a professional singer, having performed in solo concerts and festivals across the country. I have won an international talent competition which was televised from Las Vegas, and I have recorded an album of original songs, which received stellar reviews and is sold on Amazon. I have a tribute show to the movies called “Silver Screen Serenade”, and this is essentially a concert of many of the songs from the Great American Songbook.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Well there is a saying that luck happens when preparation meets the moment of opportunity. I do believe that luck plays a role and I also find that the harder I work, the luckier I get. Ultimately, luck is only one part of the equation and you have to work on the aspects of life that you can control. Since my family and I moved to Florida in November 2023, we knew that we were taking a bit of a gamble. However, since then we have bought our own office building, bought a new franchise, and have been continuing to grow and scale our business. I would say that we are lucky, but I would also say that the teamwork of having my wife and parents for encouragement and support has been the primary factor in my success and continuing to work hard and stay driven.
