Today we’d like to introduce you to Reema Bassoumi
Hi Reema, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a dentist by day, and content creator by night! I started my journey as a dentist at the age of 20 and ended up meeting my soulmate in dental school. My husband and I ended up getting married after dental school and have always dreamed about opening a dental practice together.
In the meantime, I posted a video on TikTok about my struggles as a new grad dentist- and it ended up going viral. I started more consistently on my tiktok and grew a beautiful community that I love and appreciate so much.
I then realized how much I truly loved social media and the impact it had on people. I was getting messages from people saying I’ve inspired them to pursue dentistry as a middle eastern or brown woman. I then started sharing more of my personal life and lifestyle content, along with makeup videos, modest fashion inspiration, and relationship advice. I stayed very consistent with my videos and found a passion in content creating that I never knew I had. I was working full time in dentistry all day and making my lifestyle and beauty videos after work.
My husband and I then opened our dental spa that we’ve dreamed about since school- Peerzada Smiles Dental Spa
We now get to both chase our dreams- and mine happens to be a combination of content creation and dentistry.
I look forward to continue growing my beautiful community and hopefully be a light and comfort to someone’s life with my content
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a lot of long days and hard work balancing working as a dentist full time along with being consistent with creating authentic and insightful content for my community. Balancing both was tiring and I definitely dealt with burnout, but I knew it would all be worth it. The key is staying disciplined and loving what you’re doing- and the rest will flow
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a dentist and a content creator/ influencer.
As an influencer, I create beauty, lifestyle, and modest fashion videos. I love sharing different makeup recreations, showing my morning and night routines, and sharing my life to be a comfort person to my audience. I want people to come to my page and leave feeling happy and comforted. I love being a big sister to my girls and inspiring people to chase their dreams- no matter how hard it may feel. I represent a community that is not represented enough- as a middle eastern girl I love seeing my community thrive and uplift one another. I’m hoping to see more middle eastern / Muslim representation in the beauty and fashion community- as it is much needed.
As a dentist I do all dentistry, and especially love cosmetic dentistry. I also am an aesthetic injector and we offer Botox + fillers at our dental spa
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
You know what they say- no risk no reward- and that statement is so true. I believe nothing worth it in life comes easy without taking a little risk. And I always say- if it was easy, everyone would be doing it!
A big risk I took in my life was applying to dental school months before the application cycle closed. I found out I was graduating a year early 1 month before applications opened and had to decide if I was going to apply so last minute. Ended up applying to only 1 dental program (which is very risky) and got in.
I also took a big risk with my relationship. My now husband was my best friend in dental school. Once I started having feelings for him- I knew pursuing things would risk potentially losing him as my best friend. Thankfully, it ended up working out
