Conversations with Kamenar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamenar.

Hi Kamenar, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
It all started when we were little kids and we went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. We came across a ride called the Rock N Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and it changed our lives forever. When we walked into the ride, we heard Aerosmith’s music for the very first time and were absolutely blown away. We never heard anything like it before!

When we got off the ride, there was a big video screen showing Aerosmith on stage. We stood there as long as we could remember, just taking it all in. We knew what we were seeing and hearing was something really special, and in that moment, we knew what we wanted to spend the rest of our lives doing. Just something about those 5 guys and their music was truly inspiring and the reason why we wanted to pick up instruments.

In 2015, at 13 years old, we formed our band and decided to call it our last name, Kamenar. At that point, we started digging deeper into rock music and discovered our love for the 80s hair bands. We started playing shows, covering songs from some of our favorite bands. We played around town for a few years only playing covers, when we realized if we wanted to do this for the rest of our lives that we would need original music.

In 2018, we got the news that our Nana was battling cancer and only had a few more months to live. We were heartbroken. We knew right then and there that it was time to write our first song and honor her in that way. We started writing a song, which later became ‘Never Enough Time’.

We put the track on our self-titled debut EP, along with our other original, ‘Crazy Life’, and a cover of Pop Evil’s “Ways To Get High”. We started incorporating our original music into our live shows, promoting our EP. We eventually started expanding to different cities and states, reaching new audiences.

Over time, we went from playing shows to 10 people in the audience to playing before national acts such as Alice Cooper, Slash, Bret Michaels, Warrant, Stryper, Jackyl, and Nita Strauss. We also played our first festival in New Jersey alongside Stone Temple Pilots, Chevelle, Hinder, Hoobastank, Puddle of Mudd, LA Guns, John 5, and just recently got off tour with Keith Wallen of Breaking Benjamin.

We are very fortunate and blessed for all of the opportunities we’ve had and can’t thank those enough that have supported us along the way. We are currently finishing up our next EP and will be hitting the studio in the next few months. We stay busy playing shows and continue to work hard to get our name out there.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been the easiest road. There have been many obstacles and struggles we’ve had to face along the way, and continue to face to this day. From losses to lineup changes to backstabbing in the industry, there have been many challenges. All you can do is keep your head up high and keep pushing forward.

Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
We are a hard rock band from Tampa, FL formed by my twin brother and I in 2015. We are known for our high-energy and interactive live shows. We are very proud of how far we have come since we first started out. At 20 years old, we have opened up for some of our favorite bands and biggest inspirations, including playing our first festival.

We are also proud of the fact that we were voted the #1 Fan Favorite Band in all of Tampa in a readers survey last year. We are very fortunate for all of the fans we’ve made along the way and couldn’t do it without them.

The twin dynamic definitely sets us apart from others. We like to have fun on stage and give the crowd something they’ve never seen before, such as a twin brother drum solo. Our goal is to give the audience an enjoyable and memorable show.

(We have a lot of exciting things coming up and we can’t wait to share them with everyone! Make sure to follow us on all of our socials to stay updated!)

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best piece of advice that we could give would be don’t let the little things get to you. There will be ups, and there will be downs. As we mentioned in one of the previous questions, there will always be struggles and obstacles that you will have to face. It all just depends on how you deal with the situation that matters.

Never give up on your dreams and always work hard. Nothing will ever be handed to you. If you really want something and you put in the work, the sky’s the limit. And always……. Practice!
