Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Walther.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to the area to work in a show at Busch Gardens, Tampa. I made friends with other musicians and singers who also worked there. At some point one of those singers Robyn Lista who had also become a good friend suggested we put together a band of our own.
I figured we would do random gigs here and there. Somewhat word got around and we started booking a lot of weddings and corporate events. 12 years later, we are a full-time band with usually 2-3 big events a week.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say we have had huge struggles. Everyone works really hard and is always fully committed. I had never been the leader of anything in my life. So learning how to navigate that while also being a part of the band was challenging at times.
More so early on. It’s like being an artist, manager, agent, publicist & HR all at the same time. I’ve been really fortunate to have the greatest people working with me. They are so great that it makes me want to be the best I can be. I would say that’s the secret. Surround yourself with the best people you can find.
Listen to them. Learn from them. I am always happy to be the least qualified in any room.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am from Pensacola. Started singing early in life. Moved to Nashville after High School. I was in a band called McAlyster and we got signed to MCA records and released an album.
It didn’t take off as we had hoped and I moved home and went back to college. After college, I went to work for Dollywood in a show and through that experience, I was offered the chance to come to Tampa and work for Busch Gardens.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love books and podcasts but mainly partake in them for entertainment. Love comedy & of course music.
