Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanny Jean-Francois
Hi Johanny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey back in high school. I was a hobbyist photographer always taking photos of my friends and posting very moody aesthetic photos online. I initially gave up photography simply because I thought I wasn’t good enough. I also didn’t have money to get a nice DSLR camera like other people had so I didn’t think my photography was going to get better either. I went to university and studied video production for news and broadcast which was exciting but still not along the lines of what I wanted to do long-term. I just couldn’t put my finger on it at the time. It wasn’t until I was 20 years old that I did my first wedding job. I had not done too much creative video work and I definitely never did a wedding before this. I was picked to do it out of 26 other students in my class (so maybe I was good enough!) After I did the wedding, I fell in love with the industry. I never realized what a hopeless romantic I was and how that motivated me to tell other couples’ love stories. It gave me hope, it gave me purpose and that’s why I fell in love with being a wedding photographer/videographer. I wanted to get better at doing weddings so I worked under a few companies in Orlando for roughly 2 years until I finally launched Era Evolve Media in December 2023. Once again, shaken by the fear of not being good enough, I didn’t start out doing weddings. We more-so did headshots, events, graphic design work but part of me was haunted that I wasn’t doing what I know I want to do. So I rebranded as a wedding photographer and dove head first into sprucing up my portfolio. Every wedding I did, I gave it my all and I still have a ways to go but believing in my passions has gotten me this far and I can’t wait to see where else it takes me!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never a smooth road! I’ve gone through a lot of changes since launching last year. Transitioning with business partners, there were some months where not much was happening which lead me to overthink and doubt, and diving into the world of content creation were a few struggles that I’ve had.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer and videographer, specializing in weddings and engagements. I am super proud of all the hurdles I’ve been able to overcome by the grace of the Most High. People who have witnessed the beginning of Era Evolve Media, comment and tell me all the time how much growth they’ve seen in my work in only one year. I think my genuine hunger and passion to become world-class at what I do sets me apart from others. I always want to be better, not for myself but for the couples that I serve. Every couple deserves the best memories from a day as special as their wedding day. I want to provide that in all the ways that I can. I constantly am trying to improve on technical skills, personal skills, communication etc.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Always learning and humbling myself.
