Hi Isabella, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thanks so much for having me back! My last interview with Voyage Tampa was in May 2021. At the time, it was my first year of being an independent artist. I remember talking about my childhood experiences with dance, musical theatre, and acting. I was always a Performing Arts kid! Being surrounded by the arts when I was younger definitely had an impact on my interests and my passions. Every genre would play throughout the house, whether it was Latin, Reggae, R&B, Pop, or Hip-Hop. My parents and family always encouraged me to pursue what I love and still support me in everything I do.
My career as an artist began during the pandemic in 2020, when musicians couldn’t play live shows. I spent a lot of time writing and experimenting with music technology and production. Today, I’m so thankful to play in front of live audiences. Through these last few years, I’ve expanded my fanbase and connected with so many good, talented people in places all across the Tampa area. That’s the best part about what I do.
Since my last time here, not only have I grown as a person, but I feel that my music has matured simultaneously. As a producer and a songwriter, so much of my sound and lyrics have evolved. My latest single came out on March 15th, and it’s called “Cologne”! Plus, my debut album is coming sooner than you might think. I’m super excited about having so much to look forward to this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, definitely not! Like every artist, creator, or small business owner, growing out of my shell and expanding my audience has taken work and dedication. I started this journey as a high school student, so one of my biggest challenges was balancing school with my music career. And it hasn’t gotten easier; I’m attending the University of Tampa with a double major.
Sometimes, it can feel like time isn’t on my side. Making music is one thing, but promoting it, rehearsing, scheduling shows, and editing music videos are another. There is so much more to being a creator than what it seems. It takes sacrifices and a lot of self-discipline. I’m sure many of you reading this can second me on that!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I’m a Pop recording artist based out of Tampa, Florida. I specialize in singing, songwriting, and producing original music.
I write and record in my home studio, where I produce my songs and track my own vocals and instrumentals. I’m best known for my song “Wannabe,” which was released in 2021. I still love this track; it has a Pop-R&B vibe and some feel-good lyrics. It’s confident, unapologetic, and definitely upbeat! Another popular song of mine is “Disguise”. To me, it’s the perfect song for a beach day or a sunset. It’s a chill, mellow song with a catchy guitar riff that I love.
I also have music videos available on YouTube, which I’ve edited myself. I’ve loved experimenting and learning to create visual content to support my music. While it’s a lot of hard work, it’s been so fun too! I filmed the music videos for “Despite the Distance” and “Optimistic” in New York City. The music video for “Disguise” was shot in Cancún, Anna Maria Island, and the Bahamas! It was such a memorable time.
In terms of what I’m most proud of, I’d say it’s my willingness to step outside of my comfort zone. This was the case with my original song called “Self-Reflective”, as I was exploring a new sound. It’s an upbeat Pop/Rock song with distorted guitar, stacked vocals, and some pretty sick drums. This summer, I focused on fine-tuning the details until I knew the song was complete. Finally, I was able to release it in November 2023. I learned so much from this experience, and it’s something I’m super proud of today.
Something that sets me apart from others — which I hope is evident from listening to my songs — is my versatility. I grew up listening to so many artists of various genres. I feel that my music is a combination of the influences I’ve had in my life, and I think that’s so special.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was actually pretty quiet. I think most musicians are like that. For a lot of us, music is our outlet. If you know me, I sound like a broken record, but I’m always saying music speaks in ways that words alone cannot. It’s ironic because I was the quietest one in class, and yet I was the loudest one on stage. At karaoke parties, I was always the first to volunteer!
During my teenage years, I started to venture out and develop my own taste in music. I got my first MIDI keyboard, which led me to discover the art of producing. It wasn’t long before I recorded and released my debut single, “How Many Hearts”. After that, there was no turning back!
