Today we’d like to introduce you to Corina De La Garza
Hi Corina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi I am Corina. I am a private nail tech located in plant city Florida. I specialize in natural nails using only gel products and nail art.
Growing up I have always been obessed with nails, I was either doing my cousin’s nails or my own nails until I could get a job and afford to get my nails done. The first thing I did with my first paycheck was get my nails done and I have never stoped since. In my free time I like to go on Pinterest, Instagram, tiktok to look up inspo and keep up with the new trends.
Right before COVID I got fired from my job and that became my motivation to go to cosmetology school to get my full specialist license.
It has been a journey perfecting my craft but I never gave up. I seeked out training from talented mentors along the way, and that has shaped me into the nail tech that I am today. It has been four years now as a nail tech, I can’t wait to see how much more I grow in the next four year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In June of 2022 I decided to leave my full time job and fully commit into myself and my business . That was definitely a challenge for me to fully believe in myself and to let go of a steady paycheck with benefits. At first I did not have many clients but I knew that I was just holding myself back from growing and become the best I could be. Now it is two years since I have left my full time job and I have never been happier or have been more proud my self and the business I have created.
Day to day obstacle I face is finding a balance between working and living my life. I love what I do and love my clients that I tent to over work myself some times. Having set plans like traveling or going to do an activity has helped me balance my life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in structured gel manicures, gel extensions, and nail art. A structured manicure is a technique that uses either builder gel or soft gel to strengthen and enhance your natural nails. My goal is to help my clients grow their natural nails while keeping them long, strong, and healthy. I cherish the relationships I’ve built with my clients and love seeing their happiness when I bring their nail visions to life.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Growing up in a Hispanic family, there was a strong expectation for me to pursue a career in the medical field. I always imagined myself working in healthcare. During college, I enrolled into the nursing program for one semester, but it didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I then tried to become an ultrasound technician, but that also didn’t align with my interests. I was forcing myself to follow the vision my family had for me instead of pursuing my own dreams. It wasn’t until I realized that I wouldn’t be happy in the medical field that I made the decision to enroll in cosmetology school.
