Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Cortez.
Carlos, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career in the floral industry at age 13, working a wholesale nursery in Connecticut. After working 25 years in education as a professor and college president, I moved to Tampa to care for my ailing parents. I decided to follow my childhood dream and open a flower shop.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main challenges have been economical. Tarriffs, fuel prices, Florida insurance rates, and inflation are crushing small businesses. Otherwise, the journey has been a blessing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a full-service florist, specializing in weddings, special events, and funerals. We are also an exotic plant and unique gift shop, with most of our products produced locally by artisans and independent farmers. Customers can shop online, at our flagship location in North Tampa, and by phone. We service all of Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties.
