Conversations with Andrew Corter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Corter

Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Merman Andrew, the owner of Trident Tails Entertainment, is a seasoned performer and underwater model known for his captivating work in aquarium shows and Renaissance festivals. With a striking presence, you’ve made waves not only in live events but also on screen, appearing in Netflix productions and other notable shows. Your journey is marked by a passion for the aquatic world, bringing mermaid fantasies to life for audiences everywhere.

Through Trident Tails Entertainment, you specialize in creating immersive experiences, combining artistry with underwater performance. Whether it’s enchanting the crowd at a Renaissance festival or gliding through the clear waters of an aquarium, your expertise shines through. Your brand stands as a testament to the wonders of the sea, where you guide others into a world of magic, friendship, and oceanic beauty.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all there has been plenty of struggles. The reason I created my business was because of just that. Clients never wanted to book mermen so I made it my mission to change that and give opportunities to all. Now I own a business where the non traditional performer like myself is a focus. We are grown adults in tails let’s just have some fun and enjoy the magic.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am so thankful to all the opportunities I have although a lot of work goes into getting there.

I am blessed to be a Mertailor Ambassador. Mertailor owned by Eric Ducharme has an immersive Mermaid Aquarium Encounter here in Lecanto Florida. Aside from the amazing encounter he and his team create mermaid magic…. Literally! They create every tail you see me in from fabric to silicone. Without them I really wouldn’t have the presence I do online because I wouldn’t be a Merman without it.

I had the pleasure of working with an amazing Company known as Mermaids Make Waves based in Canada run by the fincredible Ocean Mermaid Paige! She brought me up to perform alongside her and many other amazing mers to perform for Mermaid March Break at the Aquatarium in Brockville Ontario Canada. This was my first ever aquarium show when I went and it’s what put me on the map.
When I left to go I had 3000 followers on instagram when I returned I was almost at 100k. An aquarium video of me went viral and the rest was history.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
As my magical friend Mermaid Jacy once said
Know your limit and swim within it.
What does that mean?

1) Be safe and follow guidelines.
Mermaiding is a luxury but can also be unsafe if not done properly. Get a Freediver or Mermaid Certification if you want to peruse this professionally.

2) Unfortunately as you grow so does your content and what you need to get done. So it’s no longer about the fun it’s also now work. So if you want to enjoy it forever maybe don’t make it a job.

3) Hobby and working is very different. Both are amazing however they are so different. I only head to swim when I am filming. If not I’ll be at my computer working. Whether that be writing contracts for events, editing content, brand deals etc it’s never ending.
