Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilla Bordas.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I caught the “photo bug” when I was a little girl, about nine years old or so. My mom was a hobby photographer and she gave me her old film camera when she got a new one. I haven’t stopped taking pictures ever since…. I had a lot of different cameras over the years, I got my first DSLR in 2000, when they were pretty much brand new on the market, but I was only a hobbyist for a very long time. When I had my twins 15 years ago, I started taking portraits of them to capture those memories, how amazingly close they were to each other and how rapidly they were growing, changing. Fast forward to about six years ago I joined a beginner’s photography group on FB and realized how much I have to learn. I learned more and more techniques both photography and editing. Took me two years of daily practice in photoshop to develop my editing style. I’m still learning every day, I like to be challenged.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m self-taught, meaning I never went to school for photography. I either had to figure stuff out by myself or find an online course that was right for me. Same goes for the business side. My parents were entrepreneurs, but I still had to figure out how to run a business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a portrait and pet photographer. I photograph children, women and pets both in studio and outdoors. I’m known for my distinctive fine art editing style and great posing skills. I’m most proud of my ability to capture the “soul” of my subjects or the connection between my subjects if I photograph more than one.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I learned the most about photography and how to properly pose subjects from Sue Bryce. She is also a big advocate of knowing our worth as artists. When I started my business, I started attending various networking groups and found some great supporters and cheerleaders. One of them is Geneva Maresma, founder of the Hearts and Heels networking group. Otherwise, my BNI group-I developed real friendships in both groups, that goes way beyond than a business relationship. I know I can count on them no matter what.
