Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Richardson.
Hi Janelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started singing at age four and as I got older, I was vocally trained in Opera and Jazz. At age 16, I began to pursue my singing career. It started with my singing the National Anthem for the Tampa Bay Rays and recording in the studio. As the years went by, I became a recording artist performing in numerous music events throughout Florida and the Caribbean. In addition to my musical career, I was the featured actress in the theatrical production of The Little Mermaid as Ursula and played the leading role in many other musicals.
After graduating from the University of South Florida in 2014, I recognized that my primary passion was singing and entertaining others with my gift. As I pursued my music career, I have been particularly aware of so many young ladies who were struggling in life. Repeatedly during my events, I was approached by young ladies who wanted to spend time with me. It was during these performances that I found myself encouraging my fans to believe in their dreams; to appreciate their beauty; to value their selves. I wanted the girls to see what I saw… beautiful, precious individuals with unlimited potential and power. This message became a consistent part of my performance and art presentation. It was then I gave birth to my organization She Got Vision, in 2017. Now, I’m excelling every day to bring light in teens, girls and every time I perform on stage.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road for J’Nelle. I have dealt with body image issues, wanting to commit suicide, falling into depression due to school, being homeless, parents divorcing when I was nine, and almost losing my life in a car accident. I also was diagnosed with moderate anxiety disorder last year, so I have been focusing on self-care and making me a better individual daily.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional singer, songwriter, vocal coach, and founder of She Got Vision. This is what I am known for. The one thing that I am most proud of is that I get the opportunity to encourage and inspire many individuals through my music, vocal coaching, performances, and my organization, She Got Vision. The one thing that sets me apart from others is that I am very versatile with all that I do. With music, I sing RNB, Jazz, Soca, etc. With my business, I’m able to inspire individuals from different parts of the world. My purpose is to make others live out their dreams.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to make a music project that will allow the proceeds to go towards teen girl scholarships, create concerts that focus on instilling hope in individuals, become a legacy for the generation after me, and to become more international with all that I do.
