Today we’d like to introduce you to Denet Santana Hemmans.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well… my husband and I both hold degrees as professional musicians/educators. We met overseas while touring for the same agent three years ago and we decided to do our own thing by creating our own music project, “Red House Duo” We’ve performed in Asia, The Middle East and now locally around the Tampa area with our duo always getting the best feedback from the audience and patrons! My husband is a band director at a local high school and I’m currently taking a sabbatical to take care of our two children.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not, far from smooth lol I’m Cuban, not just Cuban born in America. I was actually born there and lived in Cuba until I was 22 years old that I had the opportunity to go overseas as an entertainer. My husband and I went through hoops to get married overseas and my paperwork in order to be able to enter the country, besides the fact of having two children during the process! Our project has also been affected due to covid, although it is not our first source of income, it definitely helps to pay bills. Booking shows have been harder than usual, but I trust we are on the right path networking and performing around!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional singer/multi-instrumentalist. Also I’m a music educator. I’ve been touring and performing internationally for the past ten years, taking upon students to teach them how to sing or play an instrument along the way. Currently, I have my own project alongside my husband, a very talented musician as well!!! Red House Duo was created in October 2018 in Beijing, China. We specialize in performing soulful hits from the 20th century and groovy chart-toppers of today. Our extensive repertoire has something for everyone. We have put a lot of time and money into getting a nice and professional product. Like my husband says, “scare money don’t make money” I’m beyond proud of our family. We have a beautiful tribe, and our music projects always keep us going, hustle never stops. Literally, we’re always thinking of ways to make our product better! I firmly believe that what sets me apart from others is my commitment and professional ethics. One of the most important things in the entertainment world that you must have in order to succeed, be professional, be on time, do your work!
What are your plans for the future?
Big changes always!!! Our family will stay here in Tampa for the time being a minimum of three years, and after that, we will do a reassessment and decide if we want to come back overseas! I’m looking forward to going back to school online very soon and most likely start some private music classes for children or as a music instructor at a private school! Keep booking gigs with our music project “Red House Duo.”
