Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Palmer.
Hi Samantha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Heather Brame and I, Samantha Palmer, met in 2013 when I started working at a dermatology practice in Venice, FL. We worked alongside each other for many years performing Mohs Histology Technician Services. We always joked that one day we would start our own business and travel all over Southwest Florida offering all of our services to the Mohs physicians that needed quality and efficient slides so that they could successfully cure their patient’s skin cancers. In May of 2023 Heather and I came upon a drastic shift in our employment for the dermatology group we were working with, and that was a push for us to take the leap and start our own business. Things were very tough at first with securing clients and earning companies trust. We worked diligently with marketing ourselves and proving our worth to be able to travel all over Southwest, FL and help cure skin cancers alongside some amazing Mohs surgeons.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We had a hard time securing clients at first. We had to market ourselves to let the different Dermatology companies know that we are here and open for work. We also had to earn the trust of the Mohs physicians which took time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about True Margin, LLC?
We travel to different dermatology offices that have a Mohs lab and perform the Mohs Histology Technician Services. Mohs Histology Technician Services is where a Mohs physician brings us a skin specimen from a patient that has a biopsy proven skin cancer and we us a frozen section technique in the lab to process it. The frozen section technique is where we cut the tissue into extremely thin slices and put them on slides. Once the tissue has been put on a slide, we run it through a staining process and present the slides to the Mohs physician that can check to see if all the skin cancer has been removed or if there is more skin cancer that needs to be removed.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
We have worked very hard to make sure that our business was able to get off the ground and stay off the ground so far. We made friends and worked alongside some of our other competitors that have helped us be able to provide work for our technicians and we have helped them be able to services all their clients. We would recommend never burning a bridge, and don’t let anyone get you down. Keep your head up and keep moving forward.
