Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lundy.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my legal career in 1999 and initially practiced in the areas of complex civil litigation, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and securities transactions. I was in New York until 2003, at which time I moved to Tampa to start my own firm. I quickly found my calling in marital and family law, which gave me the opportunity to help individual people navigating some of the most important moments of their lives. What started as a small family law practice quickly grew into a large practice. Then, we made the strategic decision to grow into a full-service law firm practicing in many different areas of law. We now have multiple offices throughout the Tampa Bay area and a team of talented attorneys serving clients across a quite broad range of legal needs.
What has remained constant throughout my career is my belief that legal representation is about more than winning cases. It is about helping people solve problems, protecting families, preserving businesses, and guiding clients through some of life’s most significant transitions. I am proud that many of our clients come to us through referrals from former clients, which I believe is one of the highest compliments a lawyer can receive.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges always has been balancing the volume of work while managing steady growth and never losing our commitment to providing outstanding client service. In the early years, there were long days, late nights, and plenty of uncertainty. Every decision mattered. As the firm grew, the challenges of course evolved. It became less about building a successful law practice and more about building and maintaining a strong culture. Finding and effectively recruiting talented people, creating opportunities for them to grow, and maintaining a client-focused culture across multiple offices requires constant attention.
The legal profession itself also has changed dramatically over the last two decades, and it is rapidly changing in real time right now. Clients expect more communication, more transparency, and faster access to information. Rather than resist those changes, we’ve embraced them. We’ve invested heavily in technology, client service, and innovative ways to make legal services more accessible and responsive. The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing world while staying true to our core values has been one of the keys to our success.
We’ve been impressed with Older Lundy Koch & Martino, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My primary focus is on marital and family law, particularly cases involving complex financial issues, business valuations, high-net-worth individuals, and complex matters involving children. My background in mergers and acquisitions and corporate law certainly has given me a unique perspective when dealing with complicated financial aspects of divorce and family law disputes.
What sets me apart is balance. Family law often requires both compassion and toughness. My goal is always to help families reach practical, reasonable solutions whenever possible, especially when children are involved. But when litigation becomes necessary, I am fully prepared to advocate aggressively for my clients.
As for our brand, I want people to know that Older Lundy Koch & Martino was built on three core principles: integrity, hard work, and service. We believe clients deserve honesty, responsiveness, and exceptional representation. We return calls. We answer emails. We tell clients the truth, even when it’s difficult. Most importantly, we treat our clients’ problems as if they are our own. Those values have guided us since our founding and continue to define who we are today.
