Community Highlights: Meet Koura Linda of Space Dream Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koura Linda

Koura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Following some unexpected medical adventures in 2011 which left me as a wheelchair user at the time, I had a few years of trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life.
I’d always been creative and worked in creative fields, with a huge background in art, music, live events, and film.
So, I ended up starting an accessible film production company with a focus on making a space where anyone could chase their dreams as a filmmaker and help tell stories through film.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Aside from the general struggles of just being a small business and living with multiple disabilities, working in independent film is not just an uphill battle, it can be a solid right angled wall at times.
Running a startup that doesn’t follow almost any traditional business paths is super hard. Focusing on telling stories through film while working as a filmmaker for hire while providing film services for hire while working with clients on client projects, while living with disabilities, while trying to change a very systemically flawed existing studio set up – none of that is easy.
But the more I do it the easier it gets. There isn’t anything in the world that had never been done at one point. My path just has a lot of “never been dones” on it.

We’ve been impressed with Space Dream Productions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re probably most known for producing 19 different “Best Picture” category winning and nominated projects since 2016, with over 2 dozen films in festivals around the world garnering over 200 award nominations and about 70 award wins.

Many filmmakers turn to videography and/or commercial marketing, mostly leaving actual film behind, but we have stayed with film the whole time.

Even the “content creation” services we provide are held to the same quality of filmmaking that we hold for our films, which means our client’s content stands out and tells stories – we don’t do anything that is a pure commercial without any even “edutainment” value to it. It has to have some sort of benefit to the viewer on top of the person or brand the content is being created for.

We also work really hard to be priced as accessibly as possible. We see some companies charge ten thousand dollars or more a month for content services, and we know it just doesn’t cost that much to produce.

So our clients get our award-winning scriptwriting, filmmaking, and teams at as cost-effective a rate as we can offer. We know running a business is expensive and not everyone has millions of dollars a year to spend on marketing.

What are your plans for the future?
Our biggest plans are just to keep growing! We are growing our team so we can take on a few more clients (feel free to reach out if we can assist you with bringing your story to your audience!), and we have a lineup of films for next year that we’re super excited about.

I’d like to think we’re happy on the path we’re currently on – it has been a wild journey to get here and I am excited for everything to come!
