Community Highlights: Meet Hazel Williams of Big Girl Interrupted

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hazel Williams.

Hi Hazel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It’s time for women to start taking care of themselves both physically and mentally. Too often, we put everyone else’s needs before our own and end up feeling exhausted and stressed out. But, when we take the time to nurture ourselves, we become stronger and more confident, and we can go out into the world and take on whatever life throws at us!

I ask myself what’s interrupting MY life?

Of course, I didn’t have the answer right away, I had to ask myself eight (8) times,I had to dig deep to find the answer. I came to the uncomfortable realization that it wasn’t just one thing interrupting my life, it was several things.

I had to get really up close and personal with myself.

I unpacked my childhood trauma of living in social housing, becoming a teenage single parent, putting employment first to avoid things at home, and desperately wanting to return to school.

What did I do next?

I took those negative thoughts, the trauma that haunted me, and turned them into positivity. I turned my life around, I took it back! I applied to that university and furthered my education. It was hard at first, I received a lot of passive-aggressive comments about my writing style and structure.

This experience resulted in me suffering from anxiety, weight gain, and living in a place where negative self-talk became the norm. It was painful and hurtful but that critical feedback allowed me to push myself even further – Thank you!

In 2018, after my 40th birthday, I decided to do the work to really find out who I am. I started working out daily, journaling every day, meditating, setting goals, and creating a vision board. Doing this work allowed me to open up, share with other women, and realized that I was not alone. This is when I said that we just need a space where we as women can have open conversations about the many hats we wear and share strategies that will help us get to our own personal successes.

This is when Big Girl Interrupted (BGI) was established. I wanted to build a community where women like myself can live a life where they are bold, empowered, and unapologetic, where they don’t have to worry about who they are and who they are becoming.

Big Girl Interrupted (BGI) is dedicated to inspire women to uncover, “what is interrupting” their life. We empower women to disrupt the patterns that have impaired their ability to succeed and grow. While learning to stand in their power and discovering their true authentic self.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In this life everyone deserves a “smooth road” with no struggles, just being able to live freely. However, that is not the case, life gives us challenges in hopes to better ourselves. Some embrace those challenges and some allow them to take over.

Unfortunately, covid affected a lot of businesses and BGI was one of them. We can no longer have in-person vision board parties and events. However, the shutdowns presented an opportunity for us to rebrand ourselves and offer online vision board experiences and services.

We now offer:

  • 2 Day Vision Board Bootcamps

  • 1 on 1 Vision Board Sessions

  • Vision Board Party Package

As you know, we’re big fans of Big Girl Interrupted. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

We are manifesting positivity, growth, and success for the future. We are working on so much, but what we can share is a new co-host on our, “What’s interrupting your life” YouTube show & podcast. We also host Real Talk Fridays, on the last Friday of every month, where we provide a panel for ladies to open up and have real candid conversations. Lastly, we will be launching our self-care bouquet, where we will be selling subscription journals and self-care boxes.
