Today we’d like to introduce you to Wes Hinds.
Hi Wes, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born and raised in Memphis TN raised by divorced parents, Mom a Artist and Dad a Musician and my dads parents. My grandma mostly is who helped peak my interest in art as she would paint all the time from furniture to canvas and that evolved once I made friends in the neighborhood in middle school who were deeply into graffiti and I grasped onto that full force and never let go after a few run ins with the law I quit for a while and didn’t start painting again until my junior year of high school when my art teacher saw my potential and pushed me to be great and fast forward a few years later I had moved to Florida and worked in kitchens all over the city and one day decided to pick up a large canvas and just started painting until I was done and posted it on social media just because I liked it and within 24 hours it was sold and I have kept going since then and that was a little over 6 years ago now after collecting awards and collectors all over the country and even in other countries as well which is a large accomplishment in my eyes that people besides my family like what I create because everybody mom and dad will put your art on the fridge from the day you’re born so it’s a different fulfillment overall and haven’t had a single complaint since I started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Struggles? What are those? Haha kidding of course but in all seriousness I’d have to say from finding the right target audience and the right surroundings took some time and it’s always a constant for sure to make sure you’re doing the right thing and to not conform just to make a buck and never stop being myself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being from Memphis I feel I have a slight upper hand just being that I grew up in a city filled with culture and history with not only the arts but the city as well so finding my style as a street artist was pretty easy since I left the city walls for canvas murals are a cup of tea and I love every minute of it and even when I paint things for just me or my friends and family I find joy with a spray can or brush in my hand
