Check Out Tai Chi Traditions’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tai Chi Traditions.

Hi Tai Chi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our organization started out of a mutual need to continue our Tai Chi practice during the pandemic. A few like minded individuals came together to figure out how to continue doing something that had a major impact on our lives. We began simply meeting outdoors to practice our Tai Chi form, a modified Yang style. As we practiced, we would meet people who were interested in learning and as the pandemic eased, we decided we could offer our knowledge to people who wanted to learn, We formed classes for beginning level students and continued to meet in Advanced groups for deeper instruction. It means a lot to our founders to offer Tai Chi instruction for free or as inexpensively as possible. We formed a nonprofit and utilize instructional spaces that are free such as parks or churches so that we are able to offer Tai Chi to anyone who needs it, We currently have classes in Tarpon Springs, Dunedin and Palm Harbor. All of our instructors are volunteers and we enjoy offering social gatherings for our participants as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When we originally formed Tai Chi Traditions, our intention was to create opportunities for our associates to be able to continue to practice together. As more people came to our group, it has grown much faster than we ever expected. Our biggest challenge has been developing instructors to keep up with the demand for classes.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our goal as an organization is to help participants improve their strength, balance and flexibility. We work to help people improve their overall physical and mental well-being. In addition to Beginner and Advanced Tai Chi, we offer Seated Set classes for people who are non ambulatory or in recovery from an injury or illness.
